We have mice.

The glue traps work for catching them, but you need to be nearby to take them off the trap afterwards. They sometimes get themselves off of the trap. What I did was put a couple of traps in doorways that the mouse has used before but keep the door open only big enough for the trap to fit. (3-6 inches) This way the mouse WILL go through the trap. Usually overnight.

Idid`nt put any food on there cause I knew he would go through the trap. It was a door to the closet btw.

good luck

We had mice one winter when I was really little. They were fond of my dollhouse (hand built not some plastic barbie shit), it was sort of cute in a diseased dirty sort of a way, I once saw a little mouse head pop out of the one of the shuttered windows.

They scared the hell out of my dog, he'd whimper and jump up on the couch.

Make sure all important papers are in a secure location, they'll shred the hell out of shit and then shit on everything.

We used used the wooden traps to get rid of them and luckily they never came back.

Modern. Stucco exterior followed by drywall. Tile floors.

I wonder if mice like DNP.

oh - then it should be easy to find them.

although they are likely getting in near a radiator or fridge or pipes.

in the case of a modern place, they usually just come in where existing holes are and they make them a little bigger.

also if you have piles of anything, check there too.

the glue traps work very well, but they suffocate the mouse and they make a racket as they are dying - which is nice since other mice come over to help out.

just regular snap traps are cheap and work well.

the electronic things they get used to eventually.

a cat is fine if you like cats - but sometimes cats won't kill the mice and instead will just play with them, which is painful to watch.

the poison makes it so that they bleed to death internally - the downside is if they get cut while it is in their system, then they bleed out (entirely out) on your floor.
that isn't pretty and is a sticky and nasty mess.

dnp is a bit expensive to use against a mouse.

Lestat,

The poison is really bad too. It's so sad. They just lay on the floor in pain. It's so horrible.

Yes, it's a horrible death. I wish it didn't have to be so. It's a harsh world. I actually feel sorry for them too. Wish they could be killed instantly.

we had 30 one winter.

my best success was peanut butter on the snap traps that have the wide plastic cheese looking platforms - put those against a wall that you know they run along - put the platform facing the wall.

you can't really get under the fridge, so don't bother.

if you don't have a broiler and have space under your stove, they will go there in the winter - they will smell the food and come to it and get the crumbs that fall down there.
open that up and put glue traps AND snap traps. they will flail about and call their friends and you can catch a bunch that way.

our place was really old and had shifted - so they could pretty much get in anywhere.

my favorite mouse problem was one of my previous coworkers - he had such a bad mouse problem that his apartment developed a cat problem - the cracks in the walls were so bad that stray cats were coming in after the mice.
too funny - that was the last straw for them and they bailed on that place.

also, the obvious part is any flour, cereal, candy/power/granola bars that you have, but in ziploc bags and up high.

the mice absolutely love to eat through cardboard and then get into the boxes of shit.

also, they are pretty impressive at climbing - they can't scale a bare wall, but if you have shelves and whatnot around - they can get around scarily well.

also, if you have pets or kids - the poison - including dnp - is a bad idea. while your dog is currently not showing interest in the mice, it might at some point, and if that mouse has injested the poison, then your animal now has.
and kids have an amazing ability to get into anything.
