We are on a break?

So, my gf said she needed time to think. She said shes unhappy with herself but totally loves me. Im giving her space, we still talk, acutally its been 2 days. the only thing i fear is that she wont want to get back together. she said thats not true and she doesnt think that will happen at all. I wanted a break once, she gave it to me, then i realized i totally was in love with her. is it possible she needs to realizes this too?

she said me thinking the worst isnt good, and will only make her more unhappy.

i love her to death. weve had a 3 year relationship, i dont want it to end now

has anyone ever went on a break, then got back togther? also, what is this time she needs? ladies?

nope

wrong person

oak84 sometimes a break can be a good thing...other times, its just an easy out without breaking your heart all at once. good luck with that

oh sorry thought you where someone else.

But not to sound like Ophra but if her heart isn't in it anymore then it most likely best to split. Sometimes to love someone is to let them go. She may realize that the grass isn't so green on the other side and come back but in the mean time I wouldn't wait by the phone. It would drive me more crazy if I couldn't reach you, wondering what the hell your doing.
I speak from experience. I kicked my boyfriend out over a year ago and at the time wanted it. I got lonely and called him, couldn't reach him....drove me crazy..long story short I ended up getting him back.

I'll believe in Santa Claus way before I believe in this break BS. Been there my friend, probably my biggest mistake.

ah the ol it's not you, it's me excuse. I'm hoping for the best for ya man but it usually isn't a good sign if a girl uses it. Guys use it sometimes because they truly need some alone time. Girls usually use it because they are bored.

I'm definitely a cynic though so hopefully things work out for you guys

makes me think of that song out....dang it, it's in my head.

it's not you, it's me....da da da na na na na...there's never a right time to say goodbye da da da na na.......seperate waaaaaaaaa *breathe* aaaaaysss.

relationships are complex, and difficult at times.

I'd give her all the space she needs, if she comes back, great, if she doesn't, then its not you, its her and she isn't the right person for you. Its difficult though man I know. Just try to stay busy with other things.

Well you said you got back together after a break before, right? So it can happen again.

In the meantime, get ripped and huge. That way if it doesn't work out it won't take you
long to get back on your feet w/ the ladies :)

Yeah I thought of a song by the ramones. "20 20 24 hours a day, I wanna be sedated".

oak... any chance this is a "you did it to me so i'll do it back" type thing?

or did she meet someone? those are the 2 things that pop in my mind when "break" comes up.

typically this is the cause of this "its not you, its me... i need some space" excuse. Unfortunately I've seen it far too often. Most times the woman has bumped into someone who really has caught her attention and is either thinking of, or already has had an affair.

I HOPE this is not the case for your situation, however I dont want to blow smoke up your ass and have you crying like you've been on 100mg of Clomid for 3 straight months when/if you find out the worst...

Ok let me break this down for you. When a guy says he needs space he is just telling the girl she is too clingy sometimes, and as we all know guys need their alone time regardless of how much they love a women. It is not a bad sign in a relationship.

When a woman says she needs her space, she is telling you its over.

does she have any family issues to deal with right now?
or has in the past?

also, she may not be every other female so tread lightly on responses you may read here.

the only thing you can do right now is give her space and keep living your life

9 times out of 10 it means the relationship is on the path to ending. BUT, that is far from a certainty here.

Give her the space she needs and do it gracefully and not "needy" in the least bit. "I totally respect that. It won't be easy for either of us, but do what you need to do. If you need me, you know where to find me". Then just keep doing what you do. A lot of times (usually unconsciously) girls (or guys) do the whole "break" thing just as a routine to get attention or make their S.O. chase. Maybe she needs that....but this isn't the way to get it. So, don't chase. Let her do what she needs to do. It sucks that the "power" so to speak is now in her hands, but you win a lot of it back if you don't chase and you don't let it destroy you. Be there for her if and when she needs you but also don't be afraid to make a stand when the time comes. It is not right for her to put you in the "waiting in agony" position, but I guess you owe it to her if she gave it to you.

also, she's cheating on you

You can speculate all that you like, but really there is nothing that you can do but give her space or cut it off, all together. If you decide to do the "space" thing, I think that I would set a firm date in my mind by which she should make up her mind so that you are not strung on the line for a long time.

Yup. She might as well be saying "I want to sleep with someone else without having to feel guilty about it because - we're on a break.".

I had a friend once that actually ran to his girlfriends house one night after the bar, told her it was over, went back to the bar and took home another girl, slept with her and then the next morning kicked her out and called his girlfriend to say what a mistake he made. To this day he always claimed they were broken up so it was okay.

I agree with this.

When women want a break - it is usually because they think they met someone new or WANT to go meet someone new.

Give her the space she needs/wants. If it is over, then no amount of trying to hold on will help it. Hopefully, she really does jsut need a little space and will come back to you - since that is what is seems you want. Take this time apart to do things just for you - don't sit and mope around. COncentrate on yourself, since that is what is most important.
