So they increased our water rates 5x and sent out pro forma water bills if we used the same level as last year (keeping in mind we were restricted to use water outside 2 days a week last year).

My new water bill projection ...... $2,900/ month. WTF OMG FML
 
I can't believe you were paying $600/month before.

I'm in the Great Lakes Basin. I have my own well but in the village, water bill is $30/month for unlimited use.

I wouldn't know...Ive never heard of anyone around here having a problem with a well beyond hard/soft water or an iron or radon sitch
all of which are treatable

yes fuck you can treat it. Takes a RO system that uses 5 gallons to every gallon it makes. $30k for the system and you have to have an area to house it. Too much trouble.

Last year I was only allowed to water 3 days a week, no more than 20 minutes each day. Nobody is ever allowed to water on Sunday. You can also get a ticket if your sprinklers are seen running water into the street or down the drain. the same goes for washing the car. We had a massive fee hike due to water rationing. Late in the year, when CA was officially over it's drought, we got another massive fee hike as the water authority needed to recoup it's losses caused the rationing.
 
Look at me, I brag about my water bill being more than people's mortgages

In Oceanside you need to make under $40k for a family of four in order to qualify for one of those discount water plans.
 
This is the best part. Look at all the other assistance programs:

Customers may also be eligible for CARE if they are enrolled in public assistance programs such as Medicaid/Medi-Cal, Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC), Healthy Families A & B, National School Lunch’s Free Lunch Program (NSL), Food Stamps/SNAP, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Head Start Income Eligible (Tribal Only), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Tribal TANF.
 
I'm actually not opposed to most of those programs. I can't fault the children for the parents being dead-beats. I have a friend whose dad walked out of the family when they were young, and his mother raised 4 children on WIC and a single mothers salary. 3 of her 4 kids went to college and made something of themselves, so obviously these programs can serve a purpose as long as they are not abused.

I am opposed to the tribal programs though. Indian casino's make more than enough money to assist the people who live on tribal land.
