when i train in the gym i hardly see many people drinking water, i would say about 10% of people have a water bottle. I always drink while training approx 3 pints every time. Is this a good thing?
Should you drink while training? or leave it to before? or after?

Being hyper-hydrated helps your ability to generate power and produce strength over time = heavier weights and more reps. I drink at least a pint (1/8th gallon) before a workout and then about more 1/8ths throughout the workout.
PS I bring my own water - I see some idiots paying $2 for a 16oz bottle every workout! Thats 8 bucks a week or $400 a year!
I drink constantly through a workout. I also drink before I leave for the gym so my first gym activity is a trip to the bathroom. One of these days I'll get stuck in a traffic jam and then I'm in trouble.
I hadn't really thought about it but there are typically very few people with water at the gym. I'm always sipping between sets but I have leaky skin. Very few people there have a towel either.
I carry a 1.5 litre bottle with me everywhere I go, like it's almost glued to my hand. I top it up at the water fountain in the gym and probably get through about 2 litres / 4 pints during a workout. If they had a toilet near the workout area I'd probably drink a lot more.
Everyone else I see just sips out of the paper cups supplied by the gym. I don't know how they drink so little.
I love the posers who carry the 1 gallon milk container full of water. I'm all for staying hydrated but it's just funny to see them chug what appears to be half their body weight in water after a grueling set of cable cross-overs.
I drink some water during my rest period all the time, whether i am thirsty or not, as you do i drink about 3-4 pints during my training (which sometimes only last 1 hour, or less sometimes)
