Was very disturbed...

by somthing that happened at work yesterday.
In my office area there is a huge window that overlooks the street.
When I came around the corner, I found 4 of the men I work with all looking out the window talking about something.
I was curious what they were all looking at so I approached to ask what was up. They pointed to a women in her car who was terribly stuck in a snow bank.
As this women was going back and forth, these 4 men were all laughing at her situation. One guy says "what a dummy she is"

I was disgusted and said "Aren't any of you going to go outside and help her?"
One guy replied "F her, she should have a shovel"
Another guy said "She got herself into this mess"

When I took a closer look, I saw the women was older.
I said "guys, the women looks like she's elderly"
One guys said she was about 80 yrs old

Course, I went to get my boots and jacket and went to shovel her out while these guys watched from the window.
One guy came to help me only after I went out. And these guys know I'm struggling with health issues.

The woman was in her 80's for sure

Are people that unkind?
Would you have helped her?......and answer honestly.

I bet those guys would have helped her if she were about 22yo and hot!

Assholes. I try to help anybody I see in need like that.

Isn't it??? I swear, I never knew these guys were like this.
When I came in, one of the guys says to me "sometimes you have to let people get out of their own messes"
Whatever!

Yes, I totally would have helped her and had I witnessed such an event it would have deeply disturbed me too.

This scenario reminds me of the recent 48 Hours episode series called "What Would You Do?" where they secretly tape all kinds of things like this to see how ppl react and it's pretty disturbing but some people are really awesome.

Karma is more than a fun feature on a chat board.

When I see cars broken down on the road, I look - if it is a man or women over 65 (visually) I will stop to help. I always think if it was my mother; interesting people are always doing nice things for her (must be karma).

I would have gone out and helped her no matter what - I do it all the time when I see someone that needs help. Especially an elderly person. Those guys are assholes.

I would have 100% helped her out . No doubt.

I would ALSO had some really nice words for the lazy/heartless dudes who stood by and watched.

On a side note...I have to correct your title; IT should read: I am distrubed! :)

True, had she been a younger lady maybe they would have helped her.
Too boot, the 2nd and 3rd floor windows of my company over looks the same street and no one else came out when they saw me going out.

Yes, I would have helped her, and, yes, unfortunately, many people are that unkind.

As nice of a person I am situations like this can really make my ugliness come out. I would have been so pissed at those guys.

One time my BIL was standing around scratching and sniffing as me and my MIL struggled to move a heavy oak table. He was laughing at us and mocking us as we worked really hard. My adrenaline was really kicking in and I felt like I had super human strength, lol. Once we finished I went to the bathroom to regain composure and my face was beet red and my veins were popped out of my forehead. I was so, so mad! We still don't get along to this day. I really hated him for that. I'm over it now...I think. HA!

I thought about saying something to these guys when I came in, but I felt their shame of seeing a person with an illness and HIGH HEELS go out and shovel an old lady out.

When the guy said "you have to let ppl get out of their own messes"
All I said was "remember than comment next time you're in trouble"

I'm past wasting energy by getting angry at empty people. But I was very disturbed

When my drive shaft broke and I was temporarily stranded along the road the only people who stopped and asked if I needed help was older men in beat-up, run down trucks.

They know what it's like to be down and always seem to be willing to lend a helping hand.

You did a nice thing blue.

I'm certainly going to not be as open and sweet with these guys now.
I'm aways cooking for them and bringing them stuff, it stopped yesterday.
Never in a million yrs did I think they would do that. I worked with these guys for 4 yrs.
My mind always tries to reason for unkind things people do, like maybe they were scrared to shovel or maybe they were scared to leave their job to help someone......this time I just can't seem to justify their lack of respect.

I would have helped her and told the guys what jerks they are. I try to help people in trouble like that whenever I can. Common courtesy is a glue that hold society together and we are falling apart. This is just one example.

They needed a double shot of shame thrown in their faces in this case. One shot for KNOWING you are ill, and the other shot for not caring about that old lady. I'd be JUST the person to be thrownin that shot in their face too. I am very vocal and NEVER put up WITH crap like this. I'm surprised I have any teeth in my head to be honest, somebody is gonna knock me out one of these days for my sassy mouth.

These jerks WILL get their just due someday. At least I'd like to think they will at least.

Shame on them..Shame on them.

I think what I did was just human. I would help anyone anytime. Isn't that what we are suppose to do for one another?!
It's not like these guys had to jump in a ranging river to save someone, man, it was a matter of moving some snow.

And I'm not sure why, but I got a tingle when you said "drive shaft"

;-)

I can say this, before I got sick, I would have actually blasted them, but I just can't use of my energy. I would have gotten too upset.
As you know, I'm a very vocal person and express my opinions, and they also know this about me, I think my silence spoke volumes.

Oh and when they realize they are cut off to my excellent cooking........oh will they feel the karma ...haha!

I have no idea how many people I've helped out of snow banks, change tires, or helps out of the ice. I always try to help if I can. Hell last fall my bro and I shovelled out a guys trailer at the yard waste center because he looked like he was going to keel over. Turned down the offer to buy us a case of beer too.

Cheers,
Scotsman

the other side to this?
my friends uncle tried to help a poor stranded lady out in detroit...she had her hood up and was alongside the highway...she asked for a ride home and he obliged.
when he dropped her off he was carjacked and blasted in the gut with a shotgun blast...the whole thing was a setup.
thankfully he survived and thankfully the wrongdoers were convicted.

I love it. I hope they ask you why you have not been cooking for them. You can use little engery in telling them that you've been tooooo busy getting old ladies out of snow banks to cook for them- HA! That will fix their sorry asses.

I can tell you're a great heart......

This reminds me of when I was in high school. My friends and I would purposefully go out in snow storms looking for people to help. A 4x4 with a chain is a blessing in weather like that. People nowadays are just messed up.

You know what G......I will say these exact word. I love it!
And trust me, they will ask.

They all go nuts on my banana bread, well I'm making some this weekend and when they smell it heating up, they will ask.

I had this fantasy that this old women was like a secret millionaire and she comes into my office to ask for me and in front of everyone says "You were so kind I would like to give you a check for 100 grand"

hahaha!

n00b, you don't use a chain!!!
what happens when it snaps? whiplashes your rearview window!!
use a strap!!!

Peeps nowadays are so self consumed by their own pains they cannot focus on others.

I miss the old days

This can happen, but you can't let the fear of this stop the gift of kindness

If this old lady was going to rob me, I could have taken her ;-)

unfortunatly i've had to bounce on helping a few people this winter
it was snowing so hard that if i stopped i was afraid that my truck would get rear ended
so i had to pass, i felt bad but now in days everyone has a cell so i at least know she wasn't stranded

I was driving home from Albany once during one of the worst snow storms ever. It was beginning of April 2000. About 5 ft of snow.

like a dummy, I decided to drive home that day and was the only one of highway 95. At one point a 4x4 passed me at about 50 miles an hr and I said to my friend. "That guy will be in the ditch in about 10 mins"
Sure enough........but I couldn't stop and his 4x4 was flipped on it's roof and smoke was everywhere.
My cell didn't work in the US at that time. I made it to the border 30 mins later and told the border guard about the accident. He called it in.
sometimes you just can't risk it

My tire cover on my MPV says "Hummer recovery vehical". It's my dream to pull out a H2 stuck in a snow bank.

Same thing here last winter ('06). Shit was so bad it was all you could do to stay on the road and keep moving. There were litteraly hundreds of cars off the road and nothing you could do about it except hope not to join them.

Yeah we have 200 inches of snow 45 minutes east of Seattle. Talk to Curvymom about the snow we have had this year. :)

I'd stand there laughing if it was some douchebag driving like an asshole. Otherwise, you just help them.

Yep, it's like sea level urban Seattle and then a hop on the freeway for a few and BAM! You're in a blinding winter wonderland and tuning your radio to 1610 AM for the most up to date Avalanche report.

I would have definitely helped her. Sadly though, I bet there are more people out there like me who don't expect people to help in any circumstance.

You are right. I have tried to help people before and they've been scared of me. :( Can you believe scared of ME? Sad really.

The ironic part is that the guys who laughed and didn't go to help her are typically the same type of guys who get mucho poon.

Funny how societal trends these days suggest we avoid/ridicule these types of people because of their perceived "lower" status.

Where are we going

in my business I get the "euwww" or "that's gross" often
I counter when it's appropriate
so when your mother dies it's gross?

I try to help those who need it. And in many different ways.

There are times though that some play the "helpless" card when they shouldn't. Those peeps make me want to beat them.

I would've pulled a 300 on those motherfuckers first. Kicked them out the fuckin window while yelling, "THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!"

Just because that would've been the perfect opportunity to do that.

OMG, I was gonna make a thread about this in EBTS. When a guy gets the va-jay-jay lovin' on a regular basis and doesn't have to beg for it he's a much nicer person, earns more $, and is overall happier to be on the earth.

Wow, is this revealing too much even for here? LOL!

Mucho poon from empty headed women who (unlike blue) wouldn't risk scuffing their shoes to go and help out a grandma stuck in the snow.
Those soulless people can have each other.

the reason I posted that was because you have told lots of stories where you are helping others or offering to help others or trying to help others and they arent nice or they end up wanting too much from you or they take advantage, yadda yadda.

I would have gone out there and felt her out with a short conversation. If she came across as a kindly old woman that reminded me of my grandmother, I would have done whatever it took to get her out of the snowbank. If she came off like a crumudgeon that feels the world owes her something (a LOT of old people are like this)....I would have laughed in her face and gone back inside.

Some people deserve to be helped...some don't. Gotta at least go outside and find out which type of person she is though.

trying to put your bagina on a pedestal when it deserves to be on the ground collecting dust (teehee does that even make sense?)
wimmen folk are less whory, negative and jealous when they get tagged on a regular basis.

growing up in Montreal and Ottawa that's what we did - help - it's automatic, you just do it...walking to school you knew you were going to push somebody...especially because this was way before FWD and the only 4x4 was a Jeep.

Haven't had the opportunity to do a lot of pulling people out of the snow. Growing up on the boundaries of a natl forest, I have helped people who hit deer, ran out of gas, flipped over on I-10, or stuff of that nature.
Have to be careful nowaday though...especially if it is just a hood up and no obvious reason for stop, and a pretty girl out there to take up all your attention. Keep the truck running while she walks up to the truck, been cases of people waiting in the woodline while she takes your attention, then you're jacked and they are gone with your truck. Gotta pay attention to detail.

On an educational note: If you are driving home from a graveyard shift going down Bragg Blvd (which i'm sure some here have) and a fucked up looking girl runs out into the middle of the road saying she needs help...SHE IS LYING. No matter how fucked up she looks, or what her story is...she is a HOOKER...and you almost have to use pepper spray to get the bitch out without giving her money or taking her somewhere. They should have a handbook for young joes about that place.

by somthing that happened at work yesterday.

I have seen this and other scenarios many times

i quite being surprised ansd shocked and just resolved it in my self to be thankful that I AM not a monster like those guys nor are any my good freinds

I also think it very healthy to let those pigs know you were outraged, we need more of that in this world now more then ever

fucking eh rights I would have helped her..

I just recently helped a one legged bum who feel out of his wheelchair hammered back up and we stopped him from oncoming traffic.

I'd help an old lady in need any day of the week, absolutely!

a capable woman of health and mind who is just itching for attention, probably not though.

but my grandmother's are like my angels, and I can't imagine them being stuck without being helped!

i am from the south.

those guys are probably some type of yankees ( anywhere but the south and you are some iteration of a yankee )

we were taught to respect our elders and women are held in a general reverence.

any southern MAN would have been honored to help her.

When I see cars broken down on the road, I look - if it is a man or women over 65 (visually) I will stop to help. I always think if it was my mother; interesting people are always doing nice things for her (must be karma).

LOL, I just pictured you driving in your car..."Hmmmm....she only looks about 64, she can manage."

No, I'm not taking any vics or anything for awhile, just started training again. I have a couple people close to me that just give me their prescriptions since they don't use them anymore. I know someone who harasses me about adderall every time I see her. Damn addicts! lol
