Was in the hospital today, heart vs steroids?

hey again guys!
just last night i had trouble sleeping i felt as i coudent breath and BP was way to high, ive been researching about my condition and it just makes me freak out!!!

Now they said mine was not in the area to be dangerous but can evolve into it if it grows, and they thought the steroids where the reason for this. Ive read people just suddenly die from it, its something that atlethes have now and then!

Since i got my heart scanned ive become paranoid / anxeious everyday, some times thinking about life! what if i die, i want children, my familie, my girlfriend ill do everything to correct this heartproblem if it actually is one!

I somehow feel that they arent that specialized into it, i do weighttrainer 4-5-6times a week at crazy levels i do eat alot all though i am not hungry... I still feel that i havent been informed to the point where as i can say "Ah... its all okay" on the other hand they´ve said that its all good, but they would keep me on track

8match i will get an monitor that will monitor my heartbeat ulta closely. If i get an attack there is a button that makes it record even better! Hopefully this will give me some answers more

if they request me to stop roiding, thats what im going to do. Same goes as training.

i do feel that i am pledged to keep this thread going, i really want people to understand that allthough many advise people to use steroids... Hope this thread helps in the future

Man I know the feeling. I started that after I had thyroid cancer and they took it all. I really think you should drop the gear and get on some kind of medicine for the anxiety because that's exactly what's going on. Sounds like major anxiety. You're just freaken out and can't control it. I've got something to take to help me but once they got my medicine regulated as far as my thyroid I've been good and haven't had to take anything. You need to get that under control.

The more you think about it, the worse it gets! That I can guarantee..

TIPS: Drink a glass of ICE cold water or suck on an ice cube, the cold hits a nerve at the back of the throat and slows your heart down.

Focus on every little detail around you, hinges of a chair, pattern on the walls, anything in minute detail. It will help distract you, talk them through to yourself.

Breathe in for 4 out for 4, breathe deep put your hand on your stomach and when you breathe in push the hand out. for a few minutes.

Dont worry you CANT`T die of anxiety attacks!!

But, it could lead to other health problems if left untreated, or if you dont start training your body and mind to control and handle these attacks. Problems like high blood pressure, ulcers, messed up blood sugar and nervous system is not unusual if these attacks keep coming back day after day, year after year.

They gave me the same kind of monitoring device, that I wore, with a "record" botton. ( I went out clubbin with this device attached to my body, with many wires all round my chest and stomach ) LOL :D

Dont hit the gym hardcore these days.. Train with much lighter weights. Go for a walk in the nature with friends and relax. And if you can afford a vacation then take one, and travel a place were u can just relax your mind, body, and do some fun activities.

This kind of things cured me. My last attack was almost 6 mounths ago, and I used to get them VERY OFTEN.

Hey every one! got some news

I took to the hospital my self 5days ago and talked with a night shift doctor wich i told everything, from my scanning at the hospital and that i felt attacks, i also told him i had anxiety of some sort

He was understanding and said that nvm what it was he would make me some papirs so that i could be tested right away, so after half an hour of waiting they checked my pulse and such with some elektodes on my body

for the next test i waited 4hours and they where some kind of elektrodes too, but a whole nother test! doc said it was EKG. He said everything was fine and that my heart was fully normal, i shoudent be afraid since it was kinda minor, he told me that it was a muscle in the left side that had increased in size!

Phewww... I also told him that i was afraid of dieing because i had been reaching about my condition and since the doctors from the very first "heart scan" said it was hypertrofi blabla i would bee sitting home and just reading about everything that could go wrong with "that left chambor"
i read alot about a certain condition, "wich i thought i had" that i just suddenly could die

He said i should stop reading about it since it just worsens my anxeity and i just stop trying to analyze every movement my body does, he said that some times the heart misses a beat and i surely felt that because i was thinking to much wich in return would start my anxiety!

So bros, my anxiety these days has decreased ALOT and i only experience it rarely.. My method of getting it away wich is quite fast, is by thinking that i actually dont have any problem! So thats all cleard up, just need to forget about my previous thoughts!!!

By my knowlagde this muscle in left chambor does grow by resistance training alone, surely androgenes might help to attribute it! It does so to help press blood faster thru the heart helping in aiding us when we lift: Heres something that i found about it:

Musclescience:
Androgens can cause left ventricular hypertrophy. So does heavy resistance training and cardio. The effects of androgen and LVH seem to last up to two years in individuals that both train and take high doses of androgens after the sessation of androgen use. There is a medical bias that LVH is a bad thing.

It is really only significant in athletes that suffer from cardio-megaly. LVH in the medical realm is bad, in the exercise science field it is not of great concern because it is a normal training adaptation within certain bounds.

resistance exercise seems to enlarge the heart, but the addition of AAS makes it worse.

"Retrospectively, 43% of the drug-free bodybuilders and 100% of the steroid users had left ventricular wall thickness beyond the normal range of 11 mm. In addition, 1 drug-free subject and 3 steroid users were beyond the critical mark of 13 mm. No subjects demonstrated diastolic dysfunction. In contrast to previous reports, we have demonstrated that left ventricular wall thicknesses >/=13 mm can be found routinely in elite resistance-trained athletes. The use of anabolic steroids concomitant with intensive resistance exercise does appear to augment left ventricular size without dysfunction. Anabolic steroids may accelerate left ventricular wall thickening indirectly by increasing strength, thus augmenting the pressor response."

Androgenic anabolic steroids and arterial structure and function in male bodybuilders .

Sader MA, Griffiths KA, McCredie RJ, Handelsman DJ, Celermajer DS.

Department of Cardiology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, Australia.

OBJECTIVES: The study examined arterial and cardiac structure and function in bodybuilders using androgenic anabolic steroids (AAS), compared to non-steroid -using bodybuilder controls. BACKGROUND: Adverse cardiovascular events have been reported in bodybuilders taking anabolic steroids . The cardiovascular effects of AAS, however, have not been investigated in detail. METHODS: We recruited 20 male bodybuilders (aged 35 +/- 3 years), 10 actively using AAS and 10 who denied ever using steroids . Serum lipid and hormone levels, carotid intima-media thickness (IMT), arterial reactivity, and left ventricular (LV) dimensions were measured. Vessel diameter was measured by ultrasound at rest, during reactive hyperemia (an endothelium-dependent response, leading to flow-mediated dilation, FMD), and after sublingual nitroglycerin (GTN, an endothelium-independent dilator). Arterial reactivity was also measured in 10 age-matched non-bodybuilding sedentary controls. RESULTS: Use of AAS was associated with significant decreases in high density lipoprotein cholesterol, sex hormone binding globulin, testosterone and gonadotrophin levels, and significant increases in LV mass and self-reported physical strength (p < 0.05). Carotid IMT (0.60 +/- 0.04 mm vs. 0.63 +/- 0.07 mm), arterial FMD (4.7 +/- 1.4% vs. 4.1 +/- 0.7%) and GTN responses (11.0 +/- 1.9% vs. 14.4 +/- 1.7%) were similar in both bodybuilding groups (p > 0.2). The GTN responses were significantly lower and carotid IMT significantly higher in both bodybuilding groups, however, compared with the non-bodybuilding sedentary controls (p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Although high-level bodybuilding is associated with impaired vascular reactivity and increased arterial thickening, the use of AAS per se is not associated with significant abnormalities of arterial structure or function.

Androgen receptors mediate hypertrophy in cardiac myocytes.

Marsh JD, Lehmann MH, Ritchie RH, Gwathmey JK, Green GE, Schiebinger RJ.

Department of Medicine, Harper Hospital, Detroit, Mich, USA. [email protected]

BACKGROUND: The role of androgens in producing cardiac hypertrophy by direct action on cardiac myocytes is uncertain. Accordingly, we tested the hypothesis that cardiac myocytes in adult men and women express an androgen receptor gene and that myocytes respond to androgens by a hypertrophic response. METHODS AND RESULTS: We used reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction methods to demonstrate androgen receptor transcripts in multiple tissues and [3H]phenylalanine incorporation and atrial natriuretic peptide secretion as markers of hypertrophy in cultured rat myocytes. Messenger RNA encoding androgen receptors was detected in myocytes of male and female adult rats, neonatal rat myocytes, rat heart, dog heart, and infant and adult human heart. Both testosterone and dihydrotestosterone produced a robust receptor-specific hypertrophic response in myocytes, determined by indices of protein synthesis and atrial natriuretic peptide secretion. CONCLUSIONS: Androgen receptors are present in cardiac myocytes from multiple species, including normal men and women, in a context that permits androgens to modulate the cardiac phenotype and produce hypertrophy by direct, receptor-specific mechanisms. There are clinical implications for therapeutic or illicit use of androgens in humans.
