Warm up

One of my knees hurt when I am working my legs (sometimes it even hurts in every day life movements)

I know I should warm up (and I try to do it :) ) before any leg session

(Warming up releases synovial fluid from small sacs in your joints, which allows lubrication and therefore free movement)

But how long should I warm up before I can put some weight on the barbell ?

And, what's best (as for warming up) : leg exercise w/o weight or cycling ?

BUMP :)

i personally do the bike and then go to VERY light movements

here in minnesota gotta totally unthaw before starting any movements

Some people (huge guys who seem to know what they were taling about) told me that stretching can be damagable before weight lifting

Deep knee bends seem to warm me up pretty good. I also do several sets at light weight before getting to my work sets or heavy singles.

I also wear neoprene knee supports to keep my knees warm. Works very nicely. I can tell a difference when I don't wear them.

I've heard this before, but i don't care, I personally need to do light stretching before lifting. If I don't then my joints hurt. Of course I am 31 years old...:D

As for my warmups, I just do light stretches (nothing too taxing) and jumping jacks. Then I start with light weights and work my way up to my working weight, nothing to failure just a few reps for each warmup set. This works well for me.

You should be warmed up before stretching
5-10 min on the bike then stretch
cold stretching can tear muscles and wreak havock on tendons
