Yo dog,

Saltwater tanks look great, but man.. I cannot even begin to tell you how much work they are... One a week you have to replace about 20% of the water.. and rebalance the salts.. Also, salt fish are way more expensive, and are much more temperature sensitive. They grow algea a lot quicker, and if you even think about getting invertibrets or clams, then you need to go to VHO lighting which is really expensive and a pain in the ass to rig right on a standard tank.

Yep I have heard that about salts..... I try not to go over 2 weeks between 20% water changes in my 2 aquariums now. When and if I get a salt..... I will do it up right.

I have two power filters (HOT) on my community tank right now. I think they push 850 GPH between the 2 of them.

Well with a wife, 2 boys (very active I might add), 2 big dogs, 1 16yr old Pekignese that I can't bring myself to put down (my parents' dog that they couldn't take and didn't want to put to sleep either), work, softball, coaching both my sons' teams......... well what is a few fish (38 right now I think) plus my wife and boys' betas (5 total).......... what is free time anyway??????

I hear ya on the time issues...

I'd have to think that the salt water fishies would be easier(althought more pricey). You would not have to woryy about algie at least.....

Great tank rudedawg! Unfortunately mine seems to be having some trouble now because one of my green tiger barbs is missing his tailfin... It must have either been bitten off, or worst case, he might have finrot. The tailfin is completely gone, so if it's finrot, he doesn't have much longer to live. Wish I could have noticed it sooner.

On a happier note, though, I recommend you check this out: http://www.treppel.com/fish.htm between Noon CST and Midnight CST (lights are off at other times). This guy has a 230 gallon cichild tank and he created this little waterproof structure to house his webcam and he stuck it in his tank! It looks awesome.

Thanks.......... I have lost a few fish so I hear ya. Once a fish loses a fin it isn't long before they die. Funny how some fish that are suppossed to be "community" fish are still animals. My pleco was eating on a dead fish the other day.

Hmm the other thing you should consider is maybe getting a HOT (hang on tank) wet dry filter... Cics are pretty dirty fish, the benefits of the extra "good" bacteria you get with a simple wet dry can never be over stated..

TRUE DAT!! I have two Cichlid tanks both have undergravel (which are prolly useless because the damn fish move gravel like little dozers) and HOT filters. They HOT filters are more effective in removing/reducing chemical waste.

Cool stand..... Better than those Black Iron ones.
I had a 55 gal salty and had one Blue Damsel that was my first fish, and my last fish.

It lived for like a year and a half it seemed.
Had a personality and would kick Ass on any other new fish, even big ones for about 2 days
to show them it was king of the tank and then not have to bother with them any more...
