War Thread Sticky

Make up your own minds:
Hans Blix, the chief UN weapons inspector working in Iraq until earlier this week, has expressed his disappointment at the US/British decision to press ahead with war before the UN had completed its inspections. Dr Blix insisted that the UN mission was making considerable progress and had received significant co-operation from the Iraqi authorities. In an interview recorded hours before the US began the war this morning, Dr Blix said there was no proof that Iraq possessed chemical or biological weapons, adding that he was "curious" to learn what the US would find once it occupied the country. The chief UN inspector said US intelligence information about alleged weapons programmes, which was presented to his team during their inspections, had been largely discredited.

Ok , Ok I know I posted this already on a diff thread but EFSam closed it and told me to take it here so I'm obeyin orders , and just when Warik was gettin involved. Anyway in response to what Warik said ,"basically that if there were no chemical/biological weapons then why is everyone (includin the anti-war) protesters jumpin up and down about it?"

I think that the anti-war demonstrators point is
1. He probably has no decent weapons and even if he did he's not gonna use 'em so arguments used to invade in the first place by the pro-war side are bogus.
2. Ok , let's say you boys are right and he's chock full of chem/bio weapons then it's prolly not a good idea to go invade now is it? I mean you wouldn't go invadin Russia if they stepped on your tootsies now wouldya?

A basic condition tree in any kind of analysis.

First of all it was understood that inspectors wouldn't "find" any WMD. Iraq was instructed to account for chem/bio stores that we knew they had when inspectors were kicked out of Iraq. Hans Blix is a "tool" of the UN. This is well known. There are also reports that Iraq is still producing the same missiles it has been destroying. The only reason Iraq is doing anything at all is that there are 300,000 troops on their doorstep. The minute we walk away, they will continue amassing their WMD stocks. IRAQ DOES HAVE CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS. Soldiers wouldn't be throwing on chem suits everytime a missile is fired if there weren't any.

Hanz your mother is half Iraqi and part doberman!...That makes her a coward bitch, right?...Your anti-semitic rhetoric will not be well accepted, bro!

Hans Blix is a professional guy just like you and me doin his job , if he found any weapons he'd be on the news in a flash and France and everyone else would be free to support America , and the UN wouldn't be in a crisis right now. The current situation is so far from the interests of the UN that it renders your hypothesis an interesting absurdity. I agree with you that the threat of war means that they were pushed on a bit but I mean this whole WMD bullshit , it seems to be gettin extended to sticks and fucking stones. The first chemical weapon devised was plain ol chlorine gas , any swimming pool in the World will have a decent sized drum of liquid chlorine outside! As for anthrax , any biochemical engineering graduate with access to a lab and with the right twisted state of mind could come up with a standard strain in a few months. This is fuckin ridiculous...... Havin said that , I'm glad Saddam is on the way out , just the excuses given are total bullshit.

Saddam May Be Dead!

CBS: 'Senior Officials' Think Saddam May Not Have Survived
Thu Mar 20 2003 10:33:00 ET

"I am being told by several senior officials not to take that taped speech Saddam gave last night as proof that he survived the attack," CBS NEWS reporter David Martin said on air.

"They say the evidence that put him in the bunker last night was very reliable, and they are confident that the cruise missiles and bunker-busting bombs that were fired at that bunker last night hit the target. So now, intelligence experts are studying the tape to determine if it is really Saddam, or a body double which he is known to use from time to time. And they are running a computerized voice analysis, comparing that speech with known recordings of Saddam's voice. But that's a process that takes awhile. So we may not have a quick answer."

"There is considerable belief in this government that they may, in fact, have gotten Saddam."

I might be wrong on this but didn't Blix fail to mention to the UN about Iraq's unmanned drone aircraft. If I heard that information right then that would make your argument useless.

Like I said, I might be wrong on that. :)

Homorme is absolutly correct. He somehow FORGOT to mention it. Not very proffesional in my book. Hans blix was fooled the last time he was in there and was fooled again.

What if it was his body double that was in the bunker last night ?

I'm not surprised. I was expecting some posts about it, nothing intelligent though. I posted (a link) and it was ignored, or talked over.

Only US causilties that I know of are two MIA's so far! They are searching for them now! Apache took fire went down!

Unless there's some chem/bio weapons used, I doubt you'll see many casualties.

Their wont be historic casualties with no WMD used! But if the power stucture in Iraq does not crumble enough! Baghdad street fighting will result in US High Casualties! Nothing near ten thousand! Hundreds and few thousand I believe would be the range!

Right now the war is a challege of Saddams Power! Until he is boxed in he will reframe for using WMD! He will lose all Geo Political support! The US is avoiding civilian casualties so that the Iraqi people won't feel that the war is against them! However the balance falls will determine the length and success of the war! The people of Iraq are not getting involved other than listening and watching coverage! When the power of Saddam over the people and Iraqi soldiers falls enough they will free themselves from his might!

Yes: if the war lasts more than 2-3 weeks and the leaders aren't killed yet.

No: assuming they kill Saddam and his leadership. Then people might just give and lose their hope.

BTW I heard the 82th and 101th divison were suppose to be dropped on the north of Irak, did it happen yet ?

I get a nice SCI level briefing tommorrow about all this stuff. Can't wait to see the reality vs. what is being shown on tv.

The Operation Iraqi Freedom is being run by constant Attack and Analysis! After each Attack or push they are analyzing Intel to see which road they will take on the battle plan! Time is not an issue! Battle sense, Strategic Analysis and design is!

Reports now are that Saddams Command Structure is in disaray! May be the reason Shock and Awe has been put back! He may not be running the show! Other commanders seem to be in charge! Possible surrender talks under the way! Strategic Analysis is working!

In other news! Ricin found in paris subway! Terrorist Threat against Arizonia Nuke plant! Easy access from border with mexico!

Why does the live video technology suck so bad? Like that guy reporting in night vision.

Your not going to get clear pixals with night vision! The available color and light spectrum won't allow it!

The chemical, which is many times more deadly than cyanide, is considered a likely bio-warfare agent and is on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s “B” list of agents — considered a moderate threat.

Why i dont eat castor beans!:D

I wonder how many it would take to eat to reach the level of refined ricin! A couple of tons?

Can someone explain the "Shock and Awe" campaign to me. I am not aware of what this is.

go to search type in Shock and Awe!

But i will save you time! It is the major attack plan for US troops! It is designed to show overwhelming force that the Iraqies will want to surrender! 3OOO sorties, Tomahawks! It is being delayed because US is not sure if Saddams power stucture is still up or not! No reason to use it if Saddam his commanders and Iraqi troops are isolated!

Wow oil well fire footage! Fuckin Saddam! Burn him in oil! Where is greenpeace when you need them! He is runing your environment!

I wonder if there is really going to be democracy in Iraq.
65-70% of the Iraqi population is Shiite and loyal to a religious leader in Iran. Democracy in Iraq would end in another fundamentalist state.

(based on a TV interview with Professor GĂĽnther Meyer)

Well, if the leader is also religious, then everything might work out, there could be a religious party there, just like the republicans and democrats.

Just heard a report on CNN that the Americans have "killed" some tanks.

Keep that top notch reporting up folks.

I take personal delight when they report that B-52s can launch "Tomahawks"

(they don't...they launch a much bigger cruise missle, the CALCM)

Supposedly , most of the Iraqis the US army is facing currently consists of Shiite conscripts that hate Saddam and are likely to surrender.
The more crucial part of the battle is yet to come.

Iraq tries to get the UN to stop the US

IRAQ WILL ASK SECURITY COUNCIL TO RESPOND TO U.S.-LED ATTACK
Iraq says it will ask the UN Security Council to respond to the US-led war. It is calling the attack an illegal act of aggression by a "terrorist state."

Iraq is also demanding that the US be held accountable before international tribunals for trying to assassinate Saddam Hussein in the first hours of the war.

Iraq's UN mission is urging all countries to strongly condemn the war, and for people around the world to demonstrate against what it calls "colonialism, domination and imperialism."

Iraq's UN ambassador says he doesn't know when he will ask for a Security Council meeting because he needs to talk more with his and other governments.

Now the wagering begins. Let's see who Iraq has on the payroll. My guess is that there isn't much left to bring to the table, but with some political savy Iraq may just make a deal with the devil and suprise us with something nasty.

Like the Pearl Harbor incident during WWII, which destroyed most of our Pacific Navy in several hours.

Where are all the terrorist attacks?

p0ink, why don't they have time? WIll the UN side with Iraq?

because they wont have a regime left in a few days.

maybe they can send Hans Blix in to 'assess' the situation in the US. we can give him the run-around for a few months and see how the iraqi's like it this time.

:lmao:

It's geo political insurance to proof the US is not doing any massacres of the people of Iraq. So far no live battle classified, specific video or Intel has been leaked! They have been professional! Otherwise they would be yanked!

Fox is reporting 12 Brits and 4 US.

Regardless, it's 16 soldiers dead.

Sad news.

No surprise here either. I was in Gulf War I and had the job of rounding up the cowards that surrendered. There is not a courageous soul among them. Also, the ridiculous reports that there will be 500,000 Iraqis killed are just stupid and reports of heavy American casualties are crazy. There is a higher likelyhood that we will kill more of our own with friendly fire than the Iraqi's will. That has always been a problem.

It also appears that the argument that we shouldn't attack Iraq because we cannot go after Al Qaeda at the same time has been disspelled. Anti-War protesters are idiots and chicken shits. We're doing a good thing and the future will show that Bush's leadership and action was responsible for radically ending the threat of terrorism. Terrorists are not going to be more active. They are cowards and we have them running scared.

I wouldn't refer to them as cowards - they were conscripted by force and do not support or like Saddam.

They found it in a mainline railway station, not the subway...

I am going to Paris tomorrow, wedding anniversary Spring trip.

Big booms in baghdad tonight....

The peace could be shattered again soon. On Friday, eight of the 14 B-52 bombers at Fairford air base in western England took off, portending a third night of air strikes, which have been limited so far but apparently effective in shaking Iraq’s leadership.

OK then, for argument's sake I will accept your reply. Sadly though this brings up a whole new double standard. What about Ariel Sharon in Israel? He was committing war crimes against the Lebanese at much the same time as Saddam was gassing Kurds. Are the Americans giving him ultimatums to leave Israel?

Sharon was elected by the people of Israel.

As for the gassing soldier situation, surely you can't compare that to this:

http://kurdistan.org/Multimedia/Iraq.jpg

BTW, soldiers used to stand out in the open as nuclear bombs were set off too. We know better now. I don't think Saddam does.
