i have taken up the sport of powerlifting and want to start competing. I live in portland oregon. I do not want to start until i know i will be competitve. How much more do you guys think I need to add to my lifts before I am competitive. I way 185 and could cut probabley 5 to 10 pounds. My raw bench is 315 and my raw squat without a belt is 445.

These numbers are pretty good, you may want to compete at 181, if you start hitting the weights really hard, see how it goes.

What fed do you want to compete in will determine the equipment, holla back and let a fellow know, guys here will point you in whatever direction you want to go.

Good luck!!!

i do not know anything about fed. or anything like that. What do you recommend? I like the idea of note using any equipment, but I will. I just do not have any. were do you think i would need to get to be competitive?

Wow man, I think a 445 squat at 185 lbs is awesome, especially with no belt. I weigh 185, and contemplating one day competing myself (although with a BP of 290 and squat of 350 I have ways to go).

Good Luck to you.

really man cool i thought it was not that good. My friends brother is a strength coach at a university and he wrote us a 12 week program and my squat went from 405 to 445. I can send it to you if you want it.

With decent supportive gear you will be very competitive. I think the IPA, USAPL, and WABDL is active in that area, although i could be wrong. Do a search on them and check it out.

no you dont have a ways to go!! get in there and get the experience no one cares if you are the strongest one there it takes balls to get infront of a crowed of massive people and do what you can do you will be respected for that. everyone has to start somewere. The sooner you get in there the better you will feel. i know peopel who have waited untill they "thought" they were strong enough it was to overwhelming for them and bombed out.

Get to a competition, it dosent matter how strong you are.
