None of my closest friends are black. I don't have many credentials to establish myself as a race neutral person, but that doesn't bother me. I work with a black guy who I'm pretty tight with but our relationship is based on mutual respect, not by me trying to act like a black guy or listening to rap when I'm around him. I'm sure that by many people's definition I am a racist, just like I think many people who point the finger are in denial. I see many people called racists for voicing legitimate opinions, or simply disagreeing with a self righteous liberal type and this devalues the meaning of the word until it has no effect. I guess it still scares some people into silence, but not me. In order for a person to be tolerant of everyone and be completely free of racist thoughts and prejudices, they must stop observing the world around them and lose their survival instincts and common sense. Don't let reality or facts get in the way of the pc book of commandments. Most of the people who claim to be tolerant are only tolerant as long you agree with them. If you don't, they will label you as a (insert buzzword here). Remember, it's okay for these righteous ones to resort to name calling and racial slurs as long as they are directed at a white person.
 
I dont have a single black friend. I go to class with 300 people. not a single black guy. Even though there is no shortage of them in this nation and there is no real tuition. they just cant handle it or dont bring up the effort. finance is no excuse. you only have to suggest you lack money and they supply you with the necessities

He was saying that there are people that will stay in a situation like this to profit from it, no matter what the risk is. You see it in times of war and in situations like this. What is also common sense is what I and a dozen other people have already posted. Everyone left in NO is black. A large percentage of NO under normal circumstances is black. That would make it pretty damn likely that any fuckheads trying to take advantage in the aftermath would be black. :)

As to this thread of yours, you're telling me you made a thread pre-hurricane that said people might try and ride it out in NO so they could score later? If so, I bow to your supreme swaminess :)

Vast majority? No. But a signifcant percentage of NO is / was black.

I have seen precious few white faces on the TV, except in uniforms. 99% of those invovled in illegal activities on TV have been black.

The thread topic was that BLACK people purposely stayed in NO risking their lives in a hurricane to potentially score some loot afterword. Can we agree that is ridiculous?

It seems some are saying that black people are sticking around NOW that they are already there to score some shit. Sure, no doubt. My only argument there would be any race/creed have people that would do something shitty like that. I believe that's what you and sponge are referring to and we also would agree?

was that i thought of the looting potential before hand. Now I am far removed from the scene in northern michigan, and i still thought of all the goodies to be had, surely people in NO considered that possibillity as well. And surely a few of those peeps decided to wait out the storm, banking on it being a bust, and collect their riches

I believe you were referring to those in the area in the aftermath and you are perfectly correct. Anyone already in the area afterward is definitely going to grab whatever they can. As for anyone thinking that way pre-storm, I call BS. As to your contention that they might have thought the storm would be a 'bust', if that were the case, this set of circumstances never would have arisen. In other words, no free TV and barney videos.

scum is scum. color matters not. what it boils down to is the moral judgement of the individual. dont judge one man by the actions of another simply because they are of the same race, religion, etc. there are many people of color that is personally do not like, but there are just as many people the sam color as me that i would not piss on if they were on fire. i let the actions of the individual determine if i want to be in their company. this huricane was not a race "thing", so lets not turn it into something that its not.

I'll say this...


The vast majority of the people stuck @ the dome are there because they didn't have means to leave on their own - i.e car, gas.. whatever... They didn't choose to stay.

Since they had no means to leave on their own they were told to go there for shelter and await a evacuation. That's what they did.

Since then... the situation turned to living hell. No food, no water, no essencial medications, etc. There are people sitting dead, lying dead, babies lying dead everwhere. Some people, including some infants have now gone without food/water for 3+ days. Many have died as a result.

The vast majority of the people, even in those desperate situations, haven't done anything violent. People are going to do what it takes to survive.

Damn anyone that tells them differently.

The people raiding the best buys and taking TVs are opportunistic pigs. The people that are looting for the basics of life... What can you expect in that situation? People are dying all around you... of course you are going to break the window to the bakery and eat some bread.

let me clarify that also. no, those people did not know for sure that they would be able to loot, but yes they do understand that there is a possiblity they can loot due to the simple fact that most of the time storms knock out power and citizens evacuate and there will be no one to stop them.

I'm sure it's been said several times in this thread but....I agree with you're disgust w/ people looting things like TV's, jewelry, and beer. Food and water or diapers-essentials-that's one thing. People need to survive, but no one needs a TV right now...no freakin' power anyway:)

So yes , it can look like one side is committing attrocities and murder. I really don't understand it myself. I would have never guessed that MY town would resort to such actions , I feel that those people are few in number and will be stopped soon as the heavy armor get in there.

Edwin Edwards was the Gov of LA. He has been notorious for squezzing the life blood out of that area to line his own pockets. People have been left for dead long before this day. The system of "justice" is all about money. people get DUI's and you can "grease" the right hands and it like it never happened. A possession charge is supposed to be a life long thing , but not in that area. The main problem is and has always been $$$ Now that problem is coming out like lights on a christmas tree. Anyway mr Edwards is now in jail for in money laundering efforts. The owner of the SF 49'ers Eddie Debartalow is also in trouble for this same action. He owns a building right next to the Superdown called "the new orleans center" it's a red building with the words "Dominion" on it as they are an It firm in the building as well. But it's almost a good thing that this happened becuase this crippling and stifling politics only leaves the porrest out of the picture. The poorest are those black folks who have been hurt the most by these politicans and political schemes to rob the area of economic opportunity.

So on the front it looks like a race issue when really it's a class issue. The poorest are affected the most , so they can leave town, they can't find food or water, and then they get shot be people who are trying to make a point because of the writing I have posted above. The problem with this very silly thread is that it makes no attempt to lok into Louisiana politics of politicians or the economic crisis that has been New Orleans for years before this event. You see black and white and make a very stupid assumption that this is a race issue. mainly because your young and conservative...

If you
1. know nothing about the area
2. know nothing about the history of the area
3. know no names of the people who have formed and shaped the area
4. know nome of the current "big players" of that area

People stayed because there has been a mentality for many years that New Orleans has been "lucky" They hadn't ben hit with a major hurricane in a century. Besides the poverty issue that I spoke about, people who are "white" have been killed because they waited out a storm assuming it was like the small ones that pass by every year. People don't flee hurricanes in this area. Brett Favre's family didn't flee either , you're gonna tell me that they stayed to shoplift???
