i don't know if this is the right place for this.
I want to redecorate my dining room. its formal and i have beautiful dark antique table and chairs and two side servers that were handed down to me.
I decorated the room 10 years ago and it looks good, but 10 years is way too long to go without redecorating. :)
anyway, right now i have a jacobean wallpaper on the top half, a chair rail border, and paint below that.

I was going to look for a really nice designer wallpaper- maybe even one that looks like a paint treatment, but my mom, who has gorgeous taste, said that any kind of wallpaper is out- i should paint.
whichever way i go, i'd get new window treatments and re-upholster the chairs.

what do you think? paint, or wallpaper, and if paper- any suggestions?

I like paint. But if you can find some really good antique silk, then fabric the walls. If your table is mission or 'arts and crafts' heavy, then the silk will really kick some serious ass.

Table images?

'bout time someone responded. lol
ok, i'm not really a floral person and i'm now leaning toward paint, but i like this:
http://www.decoratetoday.com/produc...ptn=DZ01519&ptnTy=DZ&PD2=0&gensearchby=1&si=7
around the bottom 1/3 of the wall, then there is a chair rail border and burgundy painted above that.
the room is fairly large and bright and the furniture, which was given to me and very old is dark/heavy/carved. really gorgeous. thats why i was thinking about a floral- something to soften the furniture and keep the same style, but only a touch of it on the bottom part of the wall.
Oak floors, and i'd do some beautiful silk drapes- like in a burgundy and sage green plaid?

I like paint or silk wallpaper. By the way, are those yours on the picture, Darling? With those, who will be looking at your decorating taste?

Keep in touch, Sweetie Pie!

lol... yes, they are mine.
i picked a chinese red and an antique paper for the bottom half, below the chair rail, and chinese silk curtains. should be very cool and regal looking.

Pick up a Southern Accents magazine and see if there's anything you like.

House & Garden and House Beautiful are pretty good too.

If you're in the city go to the D&D on 59th & 3rd.
If you need a list of places to look ask me and I'll get it to you.

You could just paint the top in flat paint and do the chair rail, lower wall and baseboard in a gloss pain (gotta prep the lower wall really well)

Or put the paper on the lower wall and flat paint on the upper.

this is what i'm doing. flat paint, chair rail in satin, then antique replica paper on the bottom. i'm still prepping, but its looking great.
