Waist size increase?

I have been hitting abs really hard lately (in conjunction with lower back). I feel like I'm losing body fat, yet I'm almost gaining waist size? Nothing significant at all. I used to be be about a 32 inch waist and now 33's are getting a little snug. Does this make sense?

The muscles around your abdominal area are getting bigger and thicker.

Ok awesome. Yes, I do my lower back and obliques at the same time as working out my abs. I feel like I'm not gaining any fat around those areas, but that my waist size is increasing. Also, my abs (especially closer to the top where they meet my chest) are starting to come out a bit more (assuming this is mass).
 
Just ease out on your core exercises or just don't build them if you want your waist to stay small....just build them enough to be strong dont get me wrong but don't over do it

It sounds like you're using pants size to judge your waste measurements. I wouldn't do that.

I have to use a belt with most 36" pants and can squeeze into 34's....YET my taped waste and hips measurements are 40"
