Vitamins

What's up all,

What type of vitamins do you guys take? I assume that most take an everyday vitamin, but do you also take and extra dose of a certain type of vitamin (i.e. extra vitamin e, a, b, c, etc.)

If so, why?

I take generic multi vit/min about 3-4 tabs a day.

also, for anti-oxidant and health purposes I take and suggest taking:

Vit C, E, B, D, A
Calcium
R-ala w/ biotin in it (Glucorell-R)
Cranberry Extract

Do you have any concern over how calcium supplements are absorbed?

Most of the time chewing the tabs before ingestion should solve the problems that people sometimes have - but overall I don't see any significant absorption problem studies.

i buy centrum for my multivitamin.

i also take ALA right before a big, carb-rich meal and a generic 50mg Zinc supplement right before I sleep - it helps me sleep and ostensibly maximizes test levels.

Centrum is one of the worst multi you can find

....and 50 mg Zn is the maximum you should take
more would be toxic

You're overstating the possibility of toxicity w/ Zn; it's not as low of a dose that causes toxicity problems. I would say around 4x that would be a problem. But, again, better be safe than sorry.

one 50 mg Zn is certainly safe but if you also take others supplements + food that already contain Zn (oysters, wheat germ,...) you can take more Zn that you probably need (just like Fe)

I would say most generic store brands would do (walgreens, longs etc...). The centrum and related are just overpriced for what they provide.
