VIDEO: Box Squat 702 x 10

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman
Platinum
This was from last week and I thought that you guys might like it.

I am he.

Thanks Steve.

Popped Collar is the ONLY way to go. And I can't really find polo shirts here in my size...

If you squat in anything less than Popped Collar, you are missing out!

A popped collar is good for at least 20 lbs on your squat. Be careful, though, the wimmins have been known to attack a guy with a beard, popped collar, and a big squat.

4 more reps than I was expecting. Are you supposed to relax anything at the bottom? Every one I see sits up straight at the bottom except you.

The hip flexors relax for a hair of a moment at the bottom...everything else should be tight. The foam gives an illusion that I've stopped when in reality I'm still sinking...making it look like the bar is going down yet I'm not.

One should never rock backwards or "touch and go" on the box squat. There are several reasons why the box squat doesn't work for people...and it is always technical.

Pretty strong squat but your stance is waaaay wide and you're not breaking parallel?

What do you do for regular squat? The jump has gotta be pretty sick if you squat below parallel normally.

I need to go home and tear up my gym! Now I know how I want to set it up....
Hooks
Chains
Screaming tunes
Rust
Keg
clutter
White board
Bent olympic bar
Bar that swings in the air
garnish with a few grunts and screams
Green polo shirt!

Awesome strength dude. You are an inspiration.

Waaaay Wide and not breaking parallel? My stance should be wider and it DOES break parallel. Maybe you can't see it from the video.

There is no such thing as a "regular squat".

Why should your stance be wider? You're just about on the rack. And you're definitely not breaking parallel.

Regular squat meaning just wider than shoulder width and breaking parallel.

Chris you should post a video explaining how to squat so Clint understands. Ha! Usually someone who has educated themselves somewhat in strength training, knows the difference between a power squat and an Olympic squat. You should definitely post an educational video for us all cuz Clint is obviously new to this whole squatting thing!

I loved this comment lol. That kid prob couldnt even stand up with 3/4 that weight!

If my stance were wider I could spread my knees out more and use my hamstrings more as well. My rack is already wider than most squat racks and my shoes are size 16...so squatting in a normal rack is freaking difficult.

I am either AT depth or below it. Having very large hips and wearing black briefs/suit makes it darn near impossible to see the hip crease. If it would make you sleep better at night I can find a picture taken right at my knee level and you can see that I'm actually below.

I don't know what I can raw Olympic Squat...because of a couple things:

1) I don't care
2) It means nothing
3) I can't do them for more than a couple weeks without knee pain
4) They have zero carry over to any of my other lifts

I do front squat and I've done around 500 (or was it a hit with 540 and a miss with 550?) and about 5 years ago I did a full OLY squat with either 600 or 680. Even most Olympic Lifters don't squat HUGE numbers...because it has no carry over to their Olympic Lifts.

This Box Squat set me up for an 821 lb deadlift as well (3 days later)...just in case you are wondering if I'm just a smoke and mirror show :)

Just kidding man...I know what you mean. I'm too old and grey to really worry about it, I've been there, and I'm having fun now. I have no reason to lie to you big man. Seriously.

What does me not being able to squat what he squats have anything to do with how to squat?

So Brozknows, all those big single squats don't have any carryover to their olympic lifts?

There's no doubt you're strong as hell with lifts like that. But being big and strong doesn't mean he's always right. His squat is strong as hell but his stance is insanely wide which seriously cuts his range of motion. If that's what he wants, that's fine. I mean it's whatever, but Evan Tipps and Midevil and their attempt at humor was just pretty stupid.

If you front squat 500, back squat 600, but box squat 701x10... you don't think if you could raise your regular back squat, there would be no carry over? Whatever works for you, works for you. That's just how lifting is.

Its just funny when form geeks try to point out ANYTHING thats not PERFECT. Hes a strong ass mofo. His squat was great.

I think I got what you were trying to say, but the point was that his stance, depth and everything else was perfect for what he was trying to do. It shouldn't be compared to a legal powerlift squat because that isn't the exercise he was doing.

If someone is that much stronger they are always right. I was throwing some humor in there because it was hilarious to here someone who is a lot younger and weaker, try to educate someone on their technique who is a lot older and stronger and also a very successful strongman. Someone who has been training and competing for years. As for me telling you to educate yourself on the difference between an Oly squat and a Power squat, I was dead serious. Are you gonna go tell Donnie Thompson, Loui Simmons and Chuck Vogelpohl that they are squatting to wide and you think they should squat like you. Go look at Jason Bergman squat in the worlds strongest man and see how he crushes everyone even though he's one of the lightest guys. That's my last post on this. This is getting silly. I hope you just listen to this man and take it as advice. Didn't mean to hurt any feeling, it was just a liiiitttle crazy.

Dude could you try to embed again or am I forever doomed to miss out on this sick squat because all I have is my phone :( I need to see this

Ride it like you stole it!!

I just touch the screen by the url and it gives the option to open in browser and that's how I've been watching.

Hey man, understand that I'm old (yeah, like OLD and stuff) and I am ALWAYS smiling when I'm typing. Always brother, I'm never being mean on purpose. I'm full of sarcasm.

I also have a wasting disease which has led me to some pretty severe arthritis and health conditions. I'm limited but I do what I can.

I can't OLY squat often or with serious intensity without severe knee pains. It was that way when I as 19 years old as well.

The OLY lifters you speak of, I know them. They are "known" in the OLY community...known for not doing well in OLY meets. They do amazing things in the gym and they never come close on meet day, especially if they have to compete in front of judges that don't let them get away with press outs and horrible technique.

And they squat big...too big. It is pointless for an OLY lifter to be pushing big and bigger numbers on the Squat because at a point it has no more carry over to their COMPETITIVE LIFT! I hope that makes sense...but it wouldn't have to me 20 years ago either.

Do I squat IPF Depth? No. I'm also not a member of the Injury Powerlifting Federation and squatting to some old 2x4's, a hand made aerobic box, an old car tire and rim, with a 35 pound plate on the top...and a found couch cushion for a little tail saving padding to top it off like whip cream. It isn't really adjustable :)

Hey clint. This is off topic but how did you find out you had this disease? Myself and the people close to me think that I have something like this with my joint health. Just wondering. Thanks

I have ulcerative colitis which is fairly easy to understand that you have something bad going on. Pooping blood non-stop was a huge sign. Then you get blood work, colonoscopy, etc...

My doctor put me on cortisone treatment for way too long and I've never recovered, joint wise.

A lot can be improved with a PVC roller and training though.

great lift for real. To the critics, you're probably a fat bum with noting better to do than troll and watch youtubes searching for videos of dudes for you to flick your little donger to. Get real. Truly inspirational stuff. By boxsquat is about 505x6 at 210 pounds So this is really something to aspire to.
