I watch all my movies now on Video on Demand -- no late fees & I don't have to drive to the damned video store that never has what I want to watch anyway & is soooo crowded you can't move anyway... ugh!
If you noticed they stopped airing those commericals because they were still charging you but not calling it a late fee. Basically if you are late they just start charging you for another rental. Depending on how late you are they'll charge for another rental and another until you brought back or paid for the DVD. And by paying that's paying what Blockbuster pays and they pay and $100 per DVD.
Blockbuster pays 100 for a DVD? I know they used to pay roughly that for VHS, but that's back when rentals and home copies didn't come out at the same time. Now that DVD's are released the same day you can rent them, I'm suprised Blockbuster would still pay the 100$, and not the 20$ everyone else does.

Well I am getting this from my finacee who used to work there maybe 2 years ago. They have to pay more since they are putting it out there for rentals. Rental mean less purchase from the general public. As a consumer if you buy a DVD for $20 you will watch it a few times and maybe lend it to a few friend and that about it, but obviously it's a totally different scenario for a rental place like Blockbuster so $20 per purchase isn't going to cut the mustard as far as the movie companies are concerned. So it's about $100 a DVD Blockbuster has to pay. It could be a little more or less.
I haven't done a hard comparison but from what I noticed the DVD bought from stores are more likely to have commericals and more trailers on them versus the Blockbuster ones. The quality though is the same across the board. Lastly if you want full screen you will have to buy it because Blockbuster doesn't carry new full screen movies anymore unless the disc has both wide and full screen on it. I have a 62" 4:3 TV and don't care but my finacee prefer full screen.
Well i have the answer to my technical question.
IF i have the pass thingy, i could have kept that movie all month if i had wnated. no late fees and stuff
