Ventrogluteal Injections

We had an interesting lecture in which IM injections were discussed, and got me wondering why Ventrogluteal Injections arent used instead of the normail dorsogluteal??

http://www.nursing-standard.co.uk/archives/ns/vol18-25/pdfs/v18n25p3942.pdf

(no im not studying nursing :p )

according to that and my lecture they are:
1. safer
2. more effective
3. easier to reach than gluteus maxiumus injections once the correct spot is found.

Thinking of using it for my next shot, anyone have any experience of using them?

Another handy link:

Im not exactly sure what is meant by ventro-gluteal. If you're referring to simply injecting into the gluteas medius, then I do that all the time. Nothing wrong with it at all. So by your terms that means I alternate between ventro and dorso gluteal injections... along with a lot of other places.

yeah, in a different spot to where spotinjections.com indicates, i always assumed when people talked about 'glute' injections they were referring to dorsogluteal injections as described in spotinjections.com? which is now apparantly an outdated technique in the medical world

The first link shows the position of a V.G. injection, is this what you were thinking?

Just tried one, found it much easier to reach and just as painless

They normally are referring to DG injects. Those are the normal gluteal injects. VG injects hit the gluteas medius. You can do it either way, both are just as effective.

Good read. I injected there once by accident (was all turned and contorted, kinda hard to describe ;) ) and found it to be pretty painless. At least I know now that the shot was still good.

i'll stick to my bis tris delts! why let oil set and swell in your ass when it can be swelling in your arms!!
