My HDL was below 30 last year. My doc gave me a list of foods to eat and I integrated that into my diet plus added:
3.6g Flax per day
3.6g Fish Oil per day
I had my levels checked 8 weeks after my last winny cycle (which should have pushed my levels down into the single digits) and I checked out at 45.
Diet is a big thing in addition to the supps. I eat two servings of fish per day (except the weekends), and leafy green veggies (the ones low in carbs - I have been on a low carb diet). From what I have read it is very hard to raise HDL but diet and supps worked for me.
Also, when I have to eat fried foods (the only "fried food” I eat is lean, boneless/skinless/no fat chicken in a pan - and I eat it rarely) I use the good cooking oils: canola, flax seed & safflower.
I personally avoid niacin because of the effect on the liver. Normal dosages are fine but when I am doing an oral cycle I want to focus hard on keeping the liver clean. I have read about time released 1400mg niacin tabs that do wonders but IMO that amount is too much for the liver on an oral cycle. If you take something like Animal Pak (or another multi vitamin sup) then that should be sufficient for your normal niacin levels but it will not be a major contributing factor for lowering your HDL. It is a trade-off. Based on my experience I raised my HDL without the niacin so I cannot complain.
