Now law enforcement can open US mail with no just cause.

It used to be less safe - because UPS was privately owned they could open the package for any reason they wanted - including a request from LE.

USPS was a higher standard because it was run by the government. It required a search warrant to open a package - no longer.

I agree. We covered this last year in law school and I think once it gets challenged in the courts, even with the conversative majority now on the bench, it will get overturned. Heaven forbid any of us getting the chance to do that! lol

Even in an official "state of emergency" I don't see how this is remotely constitutional. Does he really think terrorists ship each other blueprints of bridges, building, etc through USPS priority mail? Or perhaps they use encrypted software and use the internet. You can tap their phones (which was done but later declared unconstitutional by some rug-muncher supreme court justice), but they use them once and toss em.

That being said, this bill obviously has nothing to do with mail order "insert noun here", but it's not worth doing time over. Uncle Sam could give a shit if you're gearing up, but if you use the mail, then you're taking a huge chance (at least as of now). I've only been here a short time and I know there are so many good people here, just wouldn't want to see anyone getting into trouble.

Thats customs - not domestic USPS dude. A completely different story.

The benefit of ordering domestic was that somebody else takes the risk bringing it over, but once here its very safe to ship USPS because no LE in their right mind is going to get a warrant to search a package with 600$ worth of gear.

When you ship from overseas you agree to let customs search your package, read the fine print.

He said it was a football program from an old game, and I'm sure it was. The post office worker told him "Well as soon as they feel something odd, we are now allowed to open it" The old man got pissed off and said nevermind. WTF is up with this.
