I'm not viewing a site that sounds like banana in planet

so given the replies I gather some german guy is running his mouf. Meh...I don't need some herr Schmidt to tell me this place has royal issues.

Arkansas Oil Spill Drives Families From New Homes - Bloomberg

Fyi exxon now has the ability to give local LE in Arkansas orders. You read that right. FEMA has granted a media blackout in the area and has given a corporation the ability to give direct orders to law enforcement.

i should care about a perspective postulated by people from a country that saw fit to exterminate millions of innocent jews, just for being jewish? not likely

I can see you read nothing, since the article is by an American, presently living in Colombia.

Reading the replies of people who haven't read the article isn't much of a way to form an opinion. Your assumptions are false.

Yes, welcome to last month. This is 20 miles from me, just across the county line. The media blackout and no-fly zone are extremely troubling, Big Oil definitely has too much power.

i googled "der bananenplanet" and i found myself on a german webpage...you can see my confusion???

i'm too busy to read much of anything that isn't tax-related right now...sorry :(

I read the article and it's horribly opinionated, unsupported by facts and full of flaws.

Referring to the American system of opportunity as "culture of self-delusion" is ridiculous.

And defining wealth as: "Having the freedom to maximize one’s life experiences." is a ridiculous, non-quantifiable and capricious definition.

I don't care if someone who dislikes America wants to publish an article, but it should be entitled: "10 Of My Opinions on America" instead of "10 Things Most Americans Don't Know About America."

In the spirit of the original author, this post should be entitled: "The definitive and non-assailable critique of the Article '10 Things Most Americans Don't Know About America.'"

Article Quote: "The United States is a country built on the exaltation of economic growth and personal ingenuity. Small businesses and constant growth are celebrated and supported above all else"

Yes, God forbid we focus on growth and bettering the next generation. What was Jonas Salk thinking when he invented the polio vaccine? He could have been out boogy-boarding and "maximizing his life's experiences" instead.

Article Quote: "Unless you have cancer or something equally dire, the health care system in the US sucks. "

That's horribly wrong as well. If you have good insurance, some disposable income (or more) and a few connections (or more) in health care, the US is the best place on the planet to get sick.

Name one person on the planet who has better health care than Obama does right now. Or even better health care than any past president of member of Congress. Or an officer of any major company.

Yeah, that's right. The CEO of the last company in the Fortune 500 most likely has vastly better health care than the president of any country in South America.

That's not too bad for a country that "sucks".

It's nice that the top .1% is doing so well. Doesn't do much for our average though.

Our average gets lowered by millions of our permanent underclass members.

We should be proud of that underclass. We've spent trillions of dollars and decades of effort building these people up. Limousine liberals leverage those guys really well at the voting booth.

Of course, I'm sure those poor will eventually access our top-notch nationalized educational system and then springboard off our business-friendly, low-regulation, low-tax business environment and lift themselves right out of their plight.
