US budget problem

Well to sum it up we are fucked. Entitlements out weigh incoming taxes alone....its in black and white and the government and press avoid the issue. Even shutting the government down won't fix it. The options were to almost stop all entitlements and raise taxes to almost 50% on everyone else .....they don't want riots like in Greece.

I watched it to the end. Poor and middle class are already living mostly hand to mouth or worse, rich and corporations ain't volunteering to put out one penny more than they already do unless it means they get something for their money -- IOW, the ship may very well sink.

The fact is, most people are incapable of being realistic, they lie to themselves all the time about the dumbest stuff, do you think most are capable of facing impending disaster? Fuck no, that's why Pompeii was so successful. You think that volcano wasn't rumbling for hours, if not days, in advance? So why be surprised when you see the pyroclastic flow headed your way?

The rich will be and are ready to put their money to work which is what enables money to flow to all aspects of our economy, as soon as we know the government is not going to try to take our profits and give them to people who can but don't even try to better themselves. I'm all fine with helping when any American falls on hard times and needs a boost to get up and rolling again, but very against rewarding laziness and lack of concern for ones own financial responsibility. People need to be accountable to themselves and their families, like I said helping to get up and running again yes yes yes supporting people who are capable of supporting themselves and don't even look for work, hell no

To deal with the budget deficate the top income tax rate needs to be 90% and the bottom rate 40% and that's assuming interest rates don't increase. Welcome to believing your politicians and putting everything on the credit card.

I'm nowhere near rich but still living pretty good. The key is to manage money well, and I also stay away from credit cards and don't blow money on stupid shit like I used to.

One of the root problems with today's society (and it's a worsening continuation of the last few decades) is that our culture is as shallow as a puddle. It's also the most illogical of probably any developed nation. Feminists have convinced most women that they should be just like men. No wonder we're "raising" a bunch of dumbass delinquent kids, because there's no one at home any more to do the job. Daycare if a fucking joke. You could end up paying $500 a week and still your kid's not getting the kind of attention and upbringing they would from their mother/father during the day.

Money is our culture, and little by little, our standards are falling victim to it. Acting cool and having a shitty attitude is more important than all the "lame" things that make a society function properly. Just look at some of the trash that's popular on TV, the type of music that sells most, tabloids, etc. People also often care more about celebrities' live than their own.

And the worst part, like you said, they choose to ignore (or even create) most of their problems, until they're too big to fix. So it's kind of dog-eat-dog on both a micro and macro scale. For both people's individual lives and our own damn country's, most people would rather bask in dysfunction and say "fuck off" to any warnings until it's too late to fix anything. Even a big "I told you so" wouldn't matter in the end, because the biggest offenders are often too stupid and trashy to have ever given a shit.

One thing's certain though, if our system does collapse, it will probably be replaced by a dictatorship, and we better hope and pray the "right" people are in charge, or things could get very, very ugly.

Look at Medicaid alone. In 2010 it had a $38 trillion unfunded liability that grows at about 2.9%. The wealth of the whole world is estimated at $70 trillion. So if we took half the wealth of the whole world we would still be screwed! AND that is just Medicaid alone. Then add in Social Security.
Anything our government gets involved in goes BK. Medicaid, SS, USPS, GM (on the way).

Ss is not part of the Deficit and is solvent for 20 years as it stands.....
Medicaid/Medicare were ruined by Part C/D.
USPS was one of the most profitable Companies in the States before it was Legislated into Oblivion by forcing employees to pay retirement 75 years in advance. Also not funded by Government tax dollars.

GM is number one selling automaker of 2012.

Anything else you need to know, I can refer you to a few good books.

I would bet money the priests told the population Vulcan was angry and they needed to give more money to the priests to curb his anger and they would be fine.

The poorest person in America has a higher quality of life than Louis the XIV; Thanks to capitalism.

the spark notes of what happened to us is that in the mid to late 70's the global bankers convinced us to get off the gold standard, then in the early 80's...under the guise of we must defeat the soviet union at all costs..they convinced Reagan to blow up our new funny money. Oh yeah, it was all predicated on having the dollar as the worlds reserve currency first. We've been spending and printing ever since. The reason this didn't blow up sooner is that money has existed in 0's and 1's for some time...so we didn't actually have to physically print money. When money changed hands between banks they blew up the money supply with fractional reserve banking, but they did it all in cyberspace. Now we're this bubble is coming to a close and we're having to print more and more actual physical money which everyone knows where that train is heading. This was the basis of all of our wars, ensuring the world stays on the dollar. Even little 3rd world dictators had to toe the line because anybody started trading in something else could potentially start a trend that could stall out the system. Every time global transactions happened anywhere they had to be in U.S dollars so that the money supply could be expanded.

Everyone should be somewhat prepared for buying nothing but the necessities for a year or two while our monetary system gets restructured, it "has" to happen. Most econ professors are already telling their students that the dollar is on it's last legs and that they're gonna just dump it within a decade. Prices will be completely reorganized in such an event.
