Update On The Home Invasion...

I know it's been awhile, but between my injury, work, and the trauma my wife has been through, it hasn't been easy. But! Last week, I saw something in the local paper that "piqued" my attention.

I'm in a customer's office when I pick it and see this...
Two men arrested for theft

Here's the thing. The guy on the left used to be our neighbor. He knew house. He was our "friend". When this went down, we immediately suspected him. This reaffirms it. We contacted the detective and he stated that he immediately thought of us and took DNA from him.

We may find justice after all.

Good to hear the case is still active, hope the Mrs is doing better

Sent from my HTC One V using EliteFitness

I hope they go down hard bro

Good to hear justice is hopefully being served, and good to hear from ya!

we've installed an ADT system and are in the process of getting a trained attack dog. My wife is more traumatized than I had first thought, so the two of us are going through counseling together. She's doing well, but she still has trauma. Who wouldn't after what she endured, yeah?

Thanks guys. It means a lot to me..and more importantly her...I've conveyed your sentiments. :)

Those ADT systems are sweet, but when they're set off it's usually because the homeowner set it off, so most of the time law enforcement is sluggish to respond.

Do you think your wife would feel more secure with a firearm or tazer for home defense as a backup?

P.S. good thinking getting the dog. I have a friend who has two young boys, and they have a trained German Shep. The boys were at home with their mom one day while my buddy was at work and someone tried to break into their garage. Dog went apeshit and tore the guy's leg all apart. Awesome shit.

I have ADT and the cops were at my house in under 3 minutes both break ins.

I've set it off once by accident though.

Good to see you posting Dave. I hope that if he did this to your wife he goes away for a long time.

know any people on the job? maybe someone could arrange for a little alone time with your friend? not unheard of.

Both break ins? I live in the slums of San Diego and nobody has ever tried to break in to my home.

Yeah. Once I was there. It's been 7 almost 8 years since and I still think about it and get all creeped out if I'm walking down the hallway a certain way. hahha

I think it was the same people. Both were within 30 days of each other. They were coming back for the rest.

yeah, some random drunk got the same treatment from my trained shepherd...only my shepherd went for the dudes neck

tore the guys shoulder up really fucking bad
dude is lucky he wasn't killed

I sent you a link a while back Dave, as to where to get dogs like that. They're spendy but worth every penny.

I've never set off my home alarm by accident but its monitored through a private company so maybe its different? It has an ap on my phone to arm and disarm it

We have ADT with all the bells and whistles for close to a year now and have never set it off on accident. I do love the feature where you put in a fake code to alert police if you are being forced by an intruder to disarm it.

Thanks all. The ADT is pretty slick, and we don't want to get a firearm, but we have discussed it. My wife believes she'd feel better having a trained dog. As for the suspect, I just hope he goes away for awhile. I would like to ask him if he feels any remorse. His mother (our friend) died of cancer last year. I attended her service and even spoke in front of everyone. I'd like to ask him if he wonders what his mother would think about what he and his partner did to my wife.

Dogs are just as good or better man. With a firearm, she'd have to know there was an intruder in the first place, and manage to make it to the gun first, and then have the guts to fire it in a home (which if you have ever done, creates a kind of shell shocked feeling)

A dog seems a much better option in your case. I do believe my friend said he forked out almost 5k for the dog and classes though. And idk about California laws, but where I live there are rules you must abide by like having proper signs up and registration. Ptherwise you might be held liable in the event the dog eats someone's foot...

I was told by an attorney and the state police to NOT put up signs indicating "beware of dog" or "attack dog" or "watchdog"
that by stating it you were aware the animal was potentially vicious and could get your ass sued off.
My attack trained shepherd was right around 5k but his training wasn't complete when I got him. I actually got him as a search and rescue candidate because his tracking was incredible. Turned out he hated the shit out of other dogs so it was too stressful for him to go out on SARs missions.

My particular homeowners actually gave me a discount on the animal portion of my homeowners because my dog had 6 certificates of training including an akc good citizen certificate.

A dog is better than a gun in a lot of ways because they hear and see things you don't
plus the intimidation factor if they're casing your house...most people avoided my shepherd like the plague because he looked like something out of a fairy tale

Some insurance companies wouldn't touch our homeowners because of the breed.

My homeowners insurance nearly doubled when they found out about my Mastino. An insurance agent came out to make sure I had 6 foot tall fences, locks on all gates and signs warning they dog was vicious. CA has a list of about 11-12 dangerous dogs, and if you own one you are supposed to post signs and let your insurance company know about it.

Great Danes are on that list which is completely idiotic since most of them are a bunch of pussies, there's a reason why they call them gentle giants... scooby doo literally portraits them perfectly.
