Update on my broken Toyota

covergrl80

New member
After weeks of riding some ass I finally got some where.
I took my car into to the dealership so one of the Reps could take a look at my car. They came back to me with this little deal.

They will cover the the shortblock inc all parts and I have to pay the Labor. That is how I thought it was going to go down but I never imagined that the labor would cost $2100.00. I sat down with the service manager today and he asked me what I was looking for and whether or not I was willing to pick up any of the cost. I told him that I was not going to throw a deal on the table until I hear what they were willingto put up.

So I can pay $2100.00 for a brand new engine with a one year warranty.

What do you think. Keep in mind I just paid my car off in March and the Warranty expired on the 13th of March.

You sure it is going to be a new engine? Usually you get a used one from Japan with 30,000 miles. Apparently they have some law that the car or engine must be replaced after 30,000 miles.

WTF I am talking about my damn car and all you guys can think about is blow jobs and having your balls sucked :worried:

How about I just fucking run you over with the my car, then you can let me know if you still want me to suck your balls. lol

It's a 2001

$2000 is spendy for an install, but cheap for a new engine w/install.
Your warranty was up, so they could've just told you to fuck off.

That's what I was saying but if you read the post I made a few weeks back i explained that I had my car in the shop several time for this rattling sound. Matter of fact my first complaint was in 2002. My car was misdiagnosed time and time again.

Then I'd raise some more hell.

There's a car talk show called Click and Clack, funny shit. One of em was talking about a new minivan he bought, that had something screwed up with the engine. He didn't just stop and bring it in, but reved the fucker up on the freeway till the engine glowed red, so they would have to replace it.

I feel like raising more hell, but I really do not want to push it.

Right! To me $2100.00 sounds high for labor.
You kept taking the car back for the noise, they never could fix the problem. I would be rising all kinds of hell.
Hope everything works out for you.

I am thinking about calling the service manager on Monday and telling them I can only come up with $1000.00 and see what they say.

It won't hurt!

Call the corporate office!

I would file a complaint with BBB

I thought about that as well.

I have already spoken with my warranty company and with Customer service and all of this. They transfer my complaint along with file over to the dealership and sent a rep out to look at my car.

I would love to do that but beings my job ended on the 31st of May, that is going to make it a little hard on me. I have the worst luck ever! :worried:

Tell them you'll pay the labor if they do a factory long block.

A short block is not a whole new engine, it's just the block, crank, pistons, rings, rods, bearings, water pump. So a lot of parts will have to be swapped from your old engine -- the HEAD, starter, manifolds, all the peripheral accessories. Installing a short block is labor intensive, hence the high labor cost. It's not just like hoisting one engine out and dropping another in, there are hours and hours of prep work and bench time too.

A factory long block would cut down on the labor.

lolol wtf are you going to push it over on him?

you NEED an engine.. stop reving the shit out of your car when you drive it, yota engines should last a long fucking time, service it regularly

a 2001 and you need a new engine?

either you can't drive very well, you just bury the needle in the red you don't service it very often, or you got in a nasty accident, because I doubt it has over 200,000km on it. =/

be nice to your damn car!

I just spoke with the service manager and he said all those parts would be transferred from my old engine even if it was a long block they were putting in.

Toyota has agreed to pay for all parts at no cost to me. The Labor charge is coming from the dealership!!!! LOL This should be fun, I guess the fight is with the dealership not Toyota!

And suggestions on how I should approach this fight, without going in there and freaking out?

have sex with the GM of the dealership and he might give you 10% off

The only difference would be, with a long block, they wouldn't have to swap the HEAD. You'd get a whole new engine. With a short block, the only new part is the bottom half, they'd keep your old head. Which means your cylinders, pistons, rods, crank, bearings, and oil pump would have zero miles on them; but your valves, camshafts, and whatever rocker arms or tappets or whatever complex valve train parts Toyota engines have, would all have 100,000+ miles on them (or whatever your present odometer reading is...).

I suppose swapping over the starter, intake and exhaust manifolds, FI system, alternator, air-conditioner compressor, wiring loom and other peripherals are going to be the most time consuming part of the repair whether you get a short block or a long block; but with the long block there wouldn't be the labor of popping your head off the old engine, cleaning it up, replacing all the seals and gaskets, and slapping it on the new block.

However, it sort of looks like their mind is made up about how far they're willing to go with you, maybe now it the time to bite the bullet and accept their offer?

I hope I'm not just adding to the confusion and stress.

You could call some toyota dealership close your area and get a estimate on how many hours would it take to make the swap.

I could but I am still working on them!

I spoke with the service manager again and I told him that Toyota is paying for 100% of the parts and the dealership is not picking up a damn thing and it's your fault I am where I am now with a broken car. He said so you think the dealership should help pay. I said UUmmm yeah, I bring my car to you people all the time and I pay you to fix/diagnose my car and you failed so now you guys need to back up your guarantee, bottom line. He said well i don't know much about your case (bullshit) I will have to talk to the AR guy and see what he has to say!!! I said that is fine. Then he also said that in there computer system it does not show the same amount of complaints I said there was. I said once again you guys did not do your job!

I am starting to get to them and there not liking me now..

Get your insurance to pay after you drive it off the nearest cliff

....preferably while you are still in it.

Get a idea what other dealership would charge you for the labor, so you know if that one is trying to rape you on the labor!!

After all my bitching and making good point after good point to the dealership finally agreed to go 1/2 with me for the labor! So it went from $2100.00 to $1050.00! Not to bad.

I drop it off tomorrow and will have it back next Friday!

The exact same thing happened on my Mom's Maxima. Her transmission went within weeks of her warrantee being up and they would not cover it.
She tried dealing with the dealer, the rep and Nissan Canada. They would not BUDGE in helping to pay or offering her repair under the warrantee.
My Mom had bought 3 previous Maximas before that one from the same dealer.
She paid to have the transmission fixed then sold the pc of shit and bought a Mazda.

Now having said that, you can take the dealer to court and try to win. Judges hate car makers and dealerships and they may side with you.
My sister did this with her new Volvo where dealers jerked her around and never properly fixed a repair and then the warrantee was up and they said “Sorry too bad, warrantee was up”
She sued and won.

good luck......car companies are the worst to deal with.

i'd get it fixed.......and dump it for a new car as soon as i could afford to do so.

You are settling.
They have completely taken advatage of you at this point and you for some reason are feeling like you negotiated it well.
How do you figure?
It was their neglegence.
You should have gone to the local paper and told them your story.
As soon as the paper called the dealership asking about "how they screwed a single mother" they would have called you and taken care of the whole thing.
Essentially, you are paying them $1,050 so you don't have to put in the appropriate effort needed to hold them accountable.

Top Bottom
