Are there any drawbacks to buying an unlocked iphone, or any phone for that matter? With the new iphone coming out at only $200 I would buy one, but I dont want to leave the top rated Verizon network that I have now, or have to bust my contract with them. Thoughts?

just wait it out they will let verizon have it soon enought .. they will never be able to compete with rimm blackberry until they allow the phone to every network.. once they do their sales will explode through the roof.. apples wants to make money as well as anyone else. and once there open to all network they will make millions upon millions

Funny I never see people rocking out to their iPhones and the screen is always greesy. Sending pics is also a nightmare. Not sure how it would be on another network, i'm on AT&T same as the iPhone but don't have to login twice to send a photo, so that part I don't get. I'm with Kano, that new BB is awesome and will be smashing my pearl the second I can get my hands on one. *oops my phone broke, I need a new one.

exaclty i am getting the new bb bold.. It is going to have the 3g network same as the i phone and more. I think the bb thunder touch screen it going to rock in septber but for me i am going with the bold. As salad said the screens are always greesy and shit. And to be honest texting fast can be a nightmare on a touch screen. If you are looking for a new awesome phone and are on verizon wait for the bb bold. It comes out this month for att only but will be available sometime late summer for verizon customers. And the screen on the bold is the brighest and nicest ever done so far to date..

Also if i buy an unlocked iphone will i be able to simply swap out my simcard from my old motorola Q and be on verizon network without any hassle?

$199 for an 8 Mb Iphone with built-in GPS. Looks like a good deal to me tbh.

I'm not so sure. You have to call Verizon and check it out. I'm pretty sure it can be done with rogers.

I'm going to hold out for the BB later this year and see if it's going to be worth it. My best friend has the current version of the iPhone.. . it's aight. It doesn't do anything special that I couldn't get from a BB.

I'm not sure they will do this, since their initial releases did not include or allow for an SDK, they were attempting to control and restrict development..

Who knows, maybe the board of directors has changed their minds and will attempt to release and take over the market..

that would be a smart move i believe..

So true bro .. I think it was a bad move to begin with to relase it only to att.. Rimm does so much better cause you can get one with any carrier. If a company comes out with a touch screen phone better then the i phone and you can get it on any network its going to really hurt apple..

I love mine. I hear the only drawback is that your visual voicemail doesn't work (i.e. rather than seeing a list of numbers and being able to hand pick which messages you want to listen to, you have to use it like regular voicemail).

They're greasy because they're pigs not because it's an iphone - people with grimmy phones disgust me.

CLEAN IT!

I have an iphone I don't have to login at all to send photos - seems like a user issue not a phone issue.

How do you like your iphone? Are you dissapointed that the new i phones are alot better and only cost 200 bucks ... I would be there was no reason why they could not of includied those features in the first model if they did not rush it out the door

I'm not aware of a $200 model.

I know that there is a 16G version now that is $100 more than the 8G version I have. I'm buying my honey the 16G version for his b'day coming up because I know he'd like to store a lot of movies.

I don't care, any electronic you purhcase will have a better one within 3 months of you purchasing yours. I had finally purchased an ipod when the new genrations of color/video ipods came out a few months later.

It happens people need to get over it.

I'm very happpy with my phone, I've had no problems with it - it's easy to use and it suits my needs.

YMMV

First of all, it's "there was no reason they could not HAVE . . ."

Secondly, why does every jive ass motherfucker ask this question. The answer is NO. If I were a welfare mom, then I suppose I would be miffed. But I'm not, I could comfortably afford the phone when it came out and I can afford to upgrade whenever I want. Anyone with the IQ of a toaster knew well in advance that the second generation of the product would be faster-cheaper-better than the first. That's the way it is with most high-tech gadgetry! The thing is, as an early-adopter, you don't give a shit if the next generation is going to be cheaper. You want the cool shit now, so you are willing to pay a higher price to get it! Understand?

See.

He doesn't care either.

It's just toy, you can always buy another.

I guess from what i read the new i phone is being released on july 11 8 gig model for 200 bucks ..

What are you going to use your phone for?
I don't know if that sounds weird but, it makes a huge difference.

The IPhone is great if you are only gonna surf the internet and listen to music. However if you are more business minded and you need a quality date book and calander and things like that you are much better off with a Treo or a BB.

Plus from my experiences the IPhone gets horrible reception. Everyone I know that has an IPhone complains. And yes I have the same service and get a much better singal with my Treo.

Apple just wanted to make it's money from the fanboys.

Now the heavyweights have entered the competitive market, and Apple is scrambling to reinvent the Iphone to have it compete, or risk getting it's ass kicked.

This is nothing like battling microloser on o/s's, or ipod/itunes. These competitors are foreign-based and know what they're doing.

This will be interesting to watch. This brings out the sexy nerd in me.

I was going to by a BB curve when I bought the Iphone instead and they were the same price at the time.

Iphone has a calender (what the difference between a date book and a calender that you can make appt's on?)

I get better reception on my iphone then I ever did with my motorola's but I have never had a cell phone that got good reception in my house or office.

I think the bottom line is different people like different things I like my iphone but I don't say anything bad about BB (or similar) - I find it unfortunate that those that like BB (or similar) can't just do the same.

Liking something doesn't make it better then something you don't like.

Does your iphone calendar function have alerts and reminders of stuff you have scheduled throughout the day, like its right there on the screen upon picking up your phone and looking at it, with no pushing any buttons or drilling down to different menus?

no

rogers, bell, telus, and about 10 other companies....rogers has the most market share though

iPhone will be sold through Rogers so locked with them just like any other cellphone they sell. Might work with Fido (since they use the same network) but it WONT with Telus and Bell cause the iPhone is using the GSM technology while they're both stuck with CDMA. Thats why the Blackberry 8830 is so amazing: it works on both and comes unlocked from Bell.
