I'm having a major garbage disposal problem that maintanence probably can't help me with...how do I clean out the thing withuot it eating my hand?

Cut the power off to it at the breaker box first. Then you can run your hand down there and get it all slimy. Good luck!

get one of those chemical things that dissolves away asll the bad stuff and pour it down

If I were a lady who didn't know how to fix it, I would not hesitate to ask my manly neighbor to help "lil ol me fix that nasty garbage disposal" (don't forget the baby voice and the batting of eyes).

We men are of course suckers for that kind of thing.

:lmao: My manly neighbor is a thin Indian dentist. I can always hear him laughing through the walls, so I would prefer not to ask him.

How do I do this? Do you mean the gray box and switch labeled "kitchen". Look, I'm really not stupid. I've fixed my own toilet a few times. But do you remember that movie about the ex-con who got into the appliances and started making everything go haywire? I'm scared that this thing is going to chomp my hand off.

I was going to try a fork...

Dammit people, I'm my garbage disposal riot gear...industrial rubber gloves, ripped guns and roses shirt, backwards baseball hat...give me something I can use here before the jw's knock on my door and I have to answer it like this.

jw's?!?

have fun unclogging :)

On the bottom of the motor you will find a slot that will accept a allen key. Insert the allen key in the hole and then spin the allen key around, this will turn the blades inside the unit. If this works, then drop a few ice cubes in there and turn the unit on. DON'T FORGET TO TAKE THE ALLEN KEY OUT BEFORE TURNING ON THE UNIT. Some times the ice cubes will help brake up the crap stuck in there. Good luck

I have an allen wrench, but don't see where to put it...at all...is it usually at the top, fat part of the machine?

Under the sink, you will have to lie down on your back and look on the bottom of the motor.

I live in an efficiency, and I'm lucky I can fit my hand in the space under the sink...but I got some draino, and I'm going to try this first: I broke the circuit to the disposal, and I have a flashlight, so if I see what's in there once I drain-o it, i'll grab it. if the circuit is broken, i'm safe, right?

Did you unplug it or shut it off at the circuit breaker? Either way you will be fine

Oh, you were right, it was a plastic knife. I found the red reset button under the thing and flipped it, which made it start humming again, then I broke the circuit and used a can opener to manually rotate the blades. That got it started when I connected the circuit.

ahhh....:) glad mr macbeth is ok
