Have a lab test done on Helicobacter pilory ( http://www.helico.com/ ) the guy that discovered it won the Medicine Nobel Prize last year. ( http://nobelprize.org/medicine/laureates/2005/index.html )

In a nutshell, for ages it was believed that no organism could live in the stomach due to the acidity levels in it, hence, most of the "Chronic Heartburn" were treated with the wrong medications: diet changes, antiacids, etc.

It turns out, this bacteria is WAY too common, it's now estimated that as many as 50% of the population has it without knowing it. It irritates the gastric mucose (as it's mechanism of living there) and the byproduct of it is the heartburn. In non-treated, older patients, this constant irrititation can lead to stomach cancer, so this is not to be taken lightly.

I went through a lot of pain last year with this thing, once it is diagnosed all it takes is a week of the correct antibiotics treatment. Symptoms are exactly those: Heartburn, either chronic or comes and goes.

shit.....i got it bad too. im livin on Zantac. 150mgs. i also use a digestive enzyme, and this seems to relieve it when im consistant.

go to the store and buy some acid reducers
tahts what i use since im uninsured
i used to take protonix, that crap is awesome

Try swirling together some warm water and baking soda then slamming it. That always gets rid of even the worst cases.

Ive had chest pains before where it hurts to breathe a bit. I wonder if that was considerd heart burn? But it couldnt be traced to foods I had eaten. Is this only immediately following eating something that would cause heartburn?

does coffee/caffeine cause it?

ive woken up with it before and it toook a few hours to die down. i never took a tums though.

its a pain right in your sternum/esophagus. more like a burning pain that feels like its coming up into your throat sometimes.
yes, coffee can make it worse- so can colas, alcohol, and eating too late/too much.

oh then that's not what I was experiencing. I was probably just having a minor heart attack.

if you're paralyzed and drooling, you may have just had a stroke. you might want to see a doc when you get a chance.

No smurfy is right,
Side effects(noun) which affects(verb) spelling.

Mr. Stilleto, you just plain wrong, an affect is not an effect in this case

ok, if you both say so- although dictionary.com lists them both as nouns or verbs.
now i think that we may all be assholes, but brothabills the biggest one.

The word AFFECT *can* be used as a noun such as in the following example:

The patient presented with a flat affect.

But Stilleto, that is not the way you were using the word.

For the record.

Yup, I know
but people often describe depressed people has having a flat facial affect, which may be a side effect of a benzodiazepine that effects a flaccid muscular response as a result of the drug effects but it basically affects the mood~ giving rise to the affect noted.
