U2's new album

hanselthecaretaker

High End Bro
Platinum
is very listenable, with only a couple of filler tracks. Good songs to listen to when getting work done or for long drives. There's some very atmospheric tracks here. If you can tolerate Bono and his change-the-world attitude, then check out this soft rock album for chill listening.

Key tracks:

1. Vertigo(getting old already but oh well)
2. Miracle Drug
5. City of Blinding Lights
8. Crumbs From Your Table
9. One Step Closer
10. Original of the Species

Vertigo is a big bag of diarrhea. I have only heard about a minute of it and it excited me about as much as waiting in line at the DMV. It sounds like a Coke commercial or something. U2 has become a Pop act, no longer a rock band. They haven't been one in about 2 or 3 albums.

Only song I've heard so far is of course the Vertigo and to be honest, it sucks!

My favorite U2 album is Achtung Baby. Joshua Tree is too much about the first 3 songs.

I never considered U2 to be hard-rockers anyway, not even like Aerosmith used to be. They've always been half way between rock and pop. If you want rock guitar as of recent, look into Velvet Revolver; they're about as good as mainstream rock presently is.

VR? lol has beens and used to be's....

u2 -- the most OVER-RATED band on the planet. I'm sorry but i never liked even ONE of their songs.

I don't know where exactly in history did they get the impression they were likethe beatles. Have they even had a Top 10 hit in the past 10 years?

Yes but not necessarily in USA.

Pop , Achtung Baby and Zooropa are right at the limit of music along with some of Radiohead's work.

I wouldn't go that far. Achtung Baby is good, but Pop and Zooropa aren't on the same level. Their earlier stuff (War, etc.) is good though.

As for u2, they used to write some great songs. Now they just put out poppy garbage. They are a talented band with a social conscience, but for some reason they just produce crap on their past few albums.

Zooropa has zooropa itself , Stay and For the first time .

Pop has Wake up dead man - the backing track of the woman keening over the crashing waves is unreal in itself.

Achtung Baby has "Love is blindness" - listen to that track again - is it a funeral or a wedding ?

I was never a great fan of U2 singles or even their earlier stuff (and Im sure as hell not a fan of their later stuff) - but those 3 albums have more far out ideas well executed on them than any other band I can think of including the Beatles.

I can't recall those songs so I can't argue with you, I just haven't known U2 to be too innovative. They have written some great songs in their career, but haven't known them to really break down any new walls, which is perfectly fine. I'll have to check out those songs though.

Thats the thing with U2 - they put some shit songs on with very accessible riffs on the albums to hook the masses - but to find the real gold you'll have to put in some serious time - much the same as Nick Cave or the best stuff from Tom Waits - I just thought of another excellent track from The Joshua tree - "running to stand still"
