The Shadow

Guest
John Q - Denzel Washington

The movie is primarily a vehicle for pointing out the problems with the current insurance/HMO situation in this counrty. Washington is just amazing in this....by FAR his best work...if Training Day was worht an Oscar - he's worth 10 in this one...the scene with his son towards the end of the movie should be shown to all aspiring actors....

Memento - Guy Pearce

Guy Pearce is the guy who starred opposite Russel Crowe in La Confidental...chick form Matrix as well as Joe Palentonio9sp?) also form the MArtix and The Sopranos.

Very cutting edge type of filmmaking...about a man with no short term memory who is tracking down his wifes killer.....one of those last 5 minutes types of movies - keeps you guessing till the end...and you still need to watch it again.

Both are well worth renting.

Cool. I've been hearing some good things about Memento. I think I'll check it out.

LoTR is out on dvd as well. It has some preview footage of The Two Towers. No commentary though, which I was unimpressed with. They actually advertise for the Special Editon dvd on this version.

I really like memento...saw it a few weeks ago on Stars.

Haven't seen John Q yet.

yeah - that was a bone head move by LOR folks to push out a dvd and then in three months issue a better one

bone head? it was marketing brilliance.

they know that the viewers are die hard fans - so they will buy the dvd as soon as it comes out. in fact they will buy whatever they put out. so they put out a better one later, and they will buy that too.
and I guarentee you that once all 3 are out on dvd, there will be two more released - a box set of all of them with new material, and a special edition limited print version with a special case or something.

there is a ton of money to be made off of die hard fans.

as for Memento, the dvd is nice because you can watch the movie backwards, so that it plays like a normal movie.
and it is "Pantoliano" (Joey Pants is what they call him)

I just watched Following recently, which was directed by the guy that did Memento, and it was good. Brit and low budget, but in my opinion it is great.

I figure the peeps who are releasing the movie want to soak us for every penny they can.

There is also an advertisement for the ps2 games as well. I may even pick that one up, if the reviews are decent.

I just know that it pissed of EVERYONE i know that bought the lor dvd - not smart imo

I didn't like John Q. To me it seemed like it tried to beat you over the head to get its agenda across.

I was waiting for "sponsered by the Democratic Party" to appear at the end of the movie.

Zen

yeah - like I said it was a vehicle - but Washinton was just sublime

The only thing I have heard about John Q. up till now is that they mention pro bb'ers by name. Some small bit of advertising for the sport.

Yeah, Its put me off of buying DVDs. It would be one thing if they just released a better LOTR DVD in 3 months, but they really shouldnt have advertised it on the one you just bought.

No doubt I was waiting for Hillary to come out at the end and say this wouldn't happen if we would pass my health bill. I really got pissed at the part where the doc points out that it is WAY too easy for people to get guns. My favorite part was the funny black dude although I did thing Denzle did a good acting job. And I was touched by the notion of him giving his life for his son.

Have you seen the " Tao of Steve"? It was too funny how ugly dudes manipulate chicks to get them.
