tweaking the CKD

ok...my friend is doin a CKD for cutting....but played around with it.....he's doin 170g protein/140 fat for the 6 days...pretty much like 10 carbs a day.....and doin carb up like anyone else....

personally....i advised him not to run that diet.....cause protein can change to glucose at a pretty high rate (i think at least if my memory serves me rite)....so essentialy he's still gettin carbs....therefore kissin ketosis goodbye.......buttt.....im not sure...can i get someone's educated opinion?

Not true. Protein has a higher glucose conversion rate, but nothing near carbs. You have to have protein to spare muscle, but I'd recommend more fat grams than protein.

Carb ups should be dextrose and maltodextrin, and never fructose. Chewy Spree and Sweet Tarts are great for those (first two ingredients).

Yea....chewy spree rule. I use those right before the depletion workout to get a good spike.

Anyway....here's what I've been running since February 17th with good results. After a couple weeks, My CKD week was looking about 50/50 to 40/60 (pro/fat). With carb ups a little Friday after depletion workout and all day Saturday till bedtime.
I hit ketosis again no later than Tuesday a.m.

Friday after workout use protein and carb drink and then some high gi stuff. Saturday I start with the high gi items then go low gi till the last part, then one last high gi carb again. I've also alternated them throughout the day before too with good results.

This is just me though. As with anything you'll have to try it and then make adjustments and see how it affects things. I started off with Mr. X's plans and went from there.

---Best of luck!

Noooo, Fruit before workout! Read BodyOpus, or any of Lyle McDonald's articles. You want to be out of ketosis, but don't want to fill your muscle glycogen (spree), as you're going to the gym to deplete it. Fruit will fill your liver glycogen, but you only eat, I think, 40g carbs from fruit (one huge apple or 2 small ones).

I don't know the technical details on why, I don't feel like reading right now :D

You wanna be outta ketosis so you'll use any trace glucose in you system so you're completely empty on the carb up.
Ratio wise, I have success if I just go even on pro/fat grams. It comes out to about 70f/30p %'s everyday.
