Ok so my hubby and I decided to buy a new HD LCD tv today and we aren't real happy that shit is not all that crystal clear. Do we need the HD cable box from Comcast is that the problem? Shit doesn't seem worth the money if this is the best picture we get. We even went into the movies on demand to preview a HD movie and still looks like shit. We have to be missing something!?!?

I got the 32 inch Samsung. Sony was our first choice but they didnt have any in stock so we said screw it and got this.

32? If thats all you need why not save some $ and get a heavy ass tube TV? I think you can get those up to 35". The old school tubes are gonna have a better pic than those fancy new LCDs. People are obsessed with the plasmas and LCDs because how light weight and thin they are. My buddy works for a specialty tv/video company and he told me if you're concerned with pic quality just go with a HD tube (but he had some other fancy name for it than "tube"). Unfortunately most of the TV companies are going to stop manufacturing tube TVs soon.

Many times on the showroom floor they will play a DVD on some of these TVs that work with the strengths of the LCD/Plasma, but when you put a local channel on it will look like shit.

I bought a huge ass 250lb tube TV for movies and games about a year ago. Flat screen, HD, etc. Looks phenomenal no matter what I have it on (local channels, DVD, games).

I watch a lot of the old Christmas Specials on this one...I've had this thing forever.

Well they had sports on in the store and it looked good. We wanted it to put on our wall in the bedroom to get rid of the entertainment center. Plus we wanted a little bigger than what we had. So you say it's not worth it? My hubby is seriously thinking of returning it. He feels like he just wasted 1k!

Yep, you need an HD cable box for HDTV, and you can connect the box via component cables or HDMI (preferred).

Also, once connected, you will probably need to change your box's Output Resolution display setting for HD...mine came with a default setting of 480i for all stations. This is the standard for non-HD channels. To change the setting (at least on my box), you would go to an HD channel and then ensure that the Output Resolution was set to 720 or 1080 (depending on what resolution your HDTV supports). Keep in mind that this setting only applies to HD channels; non-HD channels will still be displayed with a res of 480.

Thanks! We will pick up new box and dvr this week. We went and bought a HDMI cable too. We will see how it works. I ended up buying my hubby his early Xmas gift when returning (PS3) so we will see how the tv looks with the games and Blueray. Hopefully he will be happier with the tv.

Puddle monkey, no shit!

You can buy big screen tube TVs now cheap as fuck!

The LCD and Plasma shit is driving their price way down.

Assuming you have the space for it (any entertainment center a couple years old) it's a great deal and great picture....
