TUF 4 Discussion Thread

Well, it's not quite as cheesy as I thought it would be...thank god!!

I'm hoping they'll highlight more of the how and why's of their training. With Couture and St. Pierre there, those guys should be all ears. But I could really see egos getting in the way.

And speaking of GSP, I'm surprised they picked him for the show. While he has more talent than most fighters, he's 1) A young fighter, 2) A non-UFC title holder (I'm not sure he even has a KOTC title) 3) Has a thick french accent. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge GSP fan, but it seems like an odd pick for a guy to coach veteran fighters.

I'm familar with most of the fighters, but not all. I'm surprised at who they picked for "The Comeback". IMO, some of those guys are in their prime.

The Carter-Clementi fight was fairly decent. One thing about losing on this show---you KNOW you are done like dinner. There's no "Oh, I'll be back, I'm going to be <sniffle> an Ultimate Fighter! You'll See!!". I mean, Rich really didn't have a lot to say. He lost to the only real has-been on the show.

I was highly skeptical at first, and while it's only one episode so far, it seems like it should be good.

yea i was kind of pleasently surprised with the show, didnt really know what to expect but was looking forward to it cause serra and sell are from my area. carter puking was classic.

i saw an interview (maybe during ufc 61?) where they interviewed gsp and asked him what he thought about being a coach on the show and i think he said he felt weird cause some of the fighters were older and more experienced than he. and couture said during ultimate fight night that it was good for gsp, he got a 6 week english class or something to that affect.

Clementi gave up that Fight , IMO , he could have won with a bit of Forced Agression - Carter wasnt In Shape and he was , and it was Obvious - But in stead he tried the "See , youre not hurting me" approach wich NEVER works , because Judges have to count "Aggression" when they score . All Carter had to do was just keep TRYING to win while the kid tried to show off how Tough he thought he was , and the win became Inevitable .

i hated when clementi kept saying how carter was so slippery. he kept making excuses for his loss. take it like a man atleast.

My thoughts exactly. STFU and fight, no BS excuses like he was all slippery. He talked a lot of talk, but as is the case a lot of the time with guys like him, he lost. It will be an interesting season for sure.

Yeah , his BS Yammering just pissed me off doubly because Shonie Practically GAVE him that Fight if he wanted it . And Im a shonie FAN , its the worst Ive seen him perform - he was TOTALLY out of shape coming in , I think he thought his Rep was going to buy him time t get the rest of the way in SHape , and it likely would have if he didnt Ralphie McPukerson all over the Gym floor .

A lot better fight this week between Ray and DeWees; Once again, I'm wondering why they picked some of these guys to be on the show. DeWees??!? He may have a wackload of fights to his name, but christ, he's only 23. Great fight, though. I thought for sure they'd stop the fight because of all the blood. He was leaking like a wide open facet. I had a guy with an arterial bleed from his temporal artery last night that also bled out as much. Awesome composure and ground game by Dewees. My only criticisim is that he looked like he couldn't finish his triangles and armbars.

Essentially, being on TUF 4 can be a death sentence for a fighter if he DOESN'T win---once you lose, it confirms you are a "has been". If DeWees made the list, where the hell was Joe Riggs???? I'd like to know the behind-the-scenes deals Dana made with these guys.

I'm not sure I agree with keeping the losing fighters around. You lose, you go home, you dig out your resume and call your high school guidiance councelor. Really, it's a bit more embarassing IMO to hang around the house after losing. It's not like these guys are really going to put %100 effort into training.

I hope to see more of GSP and Couture. So far, in the two episodes, they seem to take a backstage and not get a lot of camera time.

I mentioned that already
I hate that
I was so looking forward to St. Pierre
so far I got to hear him call the one team lazy
great, I agree but wtf
lets get some of thier pearls of wisdom or something

they were boosting GSPs image for the payperview pay day on the hughes fight

Man, Chris made that look easy. I thought it'd be more of a slugfest, and Spratt reminds me a bit of Carter---able to pull great moves off late in the fight.

I think Spratt now realizes he's done as a fighter. Poor bastard has had some tought break, probably was banking on a NFL career, by the sounds of it.

Lytle looks like he has the skills to go far. And I never realized he's a firefighter! Chock another win up for the IAFF bro!

Jeremy Jackson = The biggest tool ever to get a spot on TUF. The guy leaves me speechless. He's living out of a car, he has zero cash, he has a kid (who he obviously can't support), he KNOWS being on TUF is a second chance.

So what does he do? He jumps the fence of the house to fuck some fat lifeguard. Dana finds out, and boots him off the show. !!!!

I don't know which guy is a bigger moron, him or Noah from last season. Fools! Giving up all that for some splitass! WTF.

Anyways, another short fight---looked like Scott Smith still hasn't realized giving up your back is a bad thing. Copycat loss like when he fought David Terrell.

--->Is it just me, or is Matt Serra thee most annoying cornerman ever? I want to hit the damn mute button when the fights are on. Wow.

I think we know why JJ was living in his car, piss poor decision making. It's a shame we never got to see him fight. I seen him fight in a past UFC show and he had some good skills, just need to sure up his defense against submissions. BTW JJ was ten times the fighter Noah was who I don't think had a future in UFC.

I am looking forward to seeing Serra fight and I guess I don't find him as annoying as you, He runs his own school in N.Y. and seems to be in teacher mode most of the time. I believe he holds a black belt in BJJ.

I'm with you on that, it seems like every fight he just screams one or two things over and over again for the entire fight.

Id do whatever he was saying just to shut him the fuck up , seriously .

Jackson is the funniest thing ever . Back to sleeping in your Trunk , Bitch .

I mean , even if you DO lose , you get a chance to push your game to another level by Training the FULL CYCLE with a BUNCH of guys that could all be Coaches .

AND YOURE NOT SLEEPING IN YOUR CAR AND YOURE BEING FED FOR FREE .

Tool .

Kinda saw that win coming even before the first round. Din made it look easy; plus, when a guy says "Geez, I hope it doesn't go to the ground" you know he shouldn't be fighting MMA in 2006. I didn't realize Mikey had been in the UFC way back when.

Chock up another win for jujitsu. Speaking of which, my first formal class is next Tuesday ;)

Several people have mentioned that a loss on TUF 4 means you're done for good, but I disagree. Don't get me wrong: I think it SHOULD mean that. But we've seen lots of straight up losers get thrown on live TV in fights that, IMO, they don't deserve. That fuckhead Nichols guy from TUF 3 got a live fight didn't he? Same for Kristian whatshisname, and several other losers. Some of the guys from TUF 1-3 flat out sucked. Yet they get to fight on live TV? Fuck that. You pay for a PPV and one of the undercards is some loser from a TUF show. I honestly couldn't believe that after Kristian and Tate both flat-out told Dana, "I don't want to fight," that they still got shots on Live shows. Unbelievable.

So, I could see some of these guys getting a shot, even if they lose.

Yup. just by being on the show they become a bigger name than 95% of the fighters out there. at least it means the sport is getting more mainstream though.

No gi. I am going to get sooooooo owned, LOL. Actually, I'm really looking forward to it. Everything I've ever trained for since I was 12 has been stand up, and even everything I do now outside the gym is for my stand up. I have a feeling I'm going to be sore in some strange places. ;)

I guess the only advice I have for you Mike is RELAX !!! alot of noobs try to power their way into and out of submissions....... it wastes alot of your own energy.

second....... don't let ego get in the way of your learning, your gonna get tapped alot and your gonna get better if you stick with it.

third..... make sure the mats are clean and you roll with partners that have good hygiene. (ringworm and staph are nasty)

forth.......try to increase your flexibility

have fun and roll safe

Man, Franklin must be chucklin' to himself about having to fight the MW winner...

...and is it just me, or does McCarthy, like so many other guys, not seem like they want to be there? They all seem to have this laxidasical attitude about losing? It seems they are just more concerned with the exposure, like it guarantees them a career. Seems wrong.

I like Sell, he seems to have great hands and a killer attitude. McCarthy, on the other hand, looked like me on Tuesday at my first BJJ class---a guy who had no idea WTF to do while in a dominant position. ;)
