TRYING to cut..

I just plain suck at diets..I just...I can't diet very well unless someone makes everything for me and tells me what to eat. But I'm trying to right now..and I started today. So this is a list of what I've eaten TODAY...Hopefully gonna eat the same thing tomorrow Minus the Sweet Tarts and The Bagel.

7AM: A Sandwich: "2 piece light rye bread with 'deli turkey' and salad."

12 o'clock: Same as the morning plus a package of Sweet Tarts,

4PM A plain medium bagel.

6PM "Tuna Salad in a Can" Basicly tuna and some corn, beans.

8PM Canned Tuna with two pieces of toasted light rye bread.

10PM 2 pieces of lightly toasted rye bread

Am I doing anything wrong? Should I eliminate some meals? Be as specific as possible. Greatly apprectiated.
IT's approximately 1486.23 calories.
I'm 14, 5'10, roughly 165lbs, and anywhere from 15-17% bodyfat(no flab, though..just no abs..)

I guess I'm sorta the sameway when it comes to diets, would be a hell of a lot easier if someone took the time to make a diet that works perfect for you, what to eat, when to exercise, how to exercise ect. Actually those are the easy parts to figure out on your own, the worst part is counting calories in my opinion.
If you check the board out somemore you'll find tons of diets that are successful.

Anyways I'm not an expert or anything but your daily calorie intake seems a bit low. From what I've learned on this board you shouldn't go any lower than 300 from your maintance level. Might want to add another meal in there?

Good luck

If you really want to get cut, i would suggest lowering your carb intake. At 14 i wouldn't cut it too dramatically, try for about 60g a day or less. This usually gets good results.

1500 cals is quite low as is, I suggest you start hitting the weights and start sprinting (for faster results) to get your metabolic rate up.

And pig out every 4 days. It'll make you stick with your diet and keep your leptin levels up andthus your metabolism.

oh and drink gallons of water! Literally! that's at least 32 glasses of water.
I drink 6 glasses of water every meal, and I have 6 meals, plus 4 glasses in between each meal - do the sums :D

Be patient - it took me 4 months to get from a 40 to 35 inch waist. Even though I was losing fat quite rapidly, I took breaks away from the diet every so often to keep my metabolism reved up and to regain motivation. That's what I do now, I can only diet hard for 3 weeks, then I chill out and then get back into it.

Also, kill the carbs at night. Bread before bed isn't helping any. Replace it with something high protein to hold you over till morning. You might want to add some high quality veggies in there too... maybe some broccoli or spinach with the tuna salad. It's good carbs (relatively low carb), good fiber, filling and nutritious.

I find that one important key to sticking with a "cutting" diet is to learn and experiment with making food. Find foods that you enjoy, but are still healthy and compatible with the diet. I have had great success doing this and actually enjoy dieting.

The worst thing someone new to dieting can do is instantly start on some extreme type of diet. You need to learn how to eat good in general before you go extreme. Why? What happens when you finally reach your goals if you don't know how to eat normally? As much as I hate Bill Phillips I think many of those that are new to dieting can learn to eat good just by following his portion control and diet setup. Once you learn to eat like this you can choose to use an extreme diet and when your goal is reached you can go back to the "Body for Life" type of plan. This would be great for maintenance.

Excellent point. That definitely needed to be addressed. I guess a lot of us assume that others are at the same place we are when asking questions like this...

Oatmeal or flax meal with protein is my order for the day right after morning cardio. Filling, warm, and TASTY!
