Trapps

I train traps with shoulders, I only do 1 exercise which is dumbell shrugs.

This is what works for me

Ronnie coleman hardly ever works his traps, normally he only does upright rows and he does these on shoulder day too.

Ok Thanks Wyllis, I also like to work my traps with shoulders, does anybody else do traps together with any other body part

I do traps prefferably with delts

Somteimes I switch routines and i do'em with BACK

The deadlifts I do for back are are already working the traps bigtime
:)

i do my traps with my back and delts, they get hit from the deadlifts the most and the barbell rows, if i did delts and back on different days i would put traps with back, they are part of your back!

YUP, the lower traps def are part of the back...

But the upper traps has a lot of functionality for delt presses upright rows etc too so delts day qualifies also as a day to hit upper traps

I always train traps with back, although alot of people like to do them with shoulders. I was thinking about switching but I'm gonna wait a while on that one.

work specifically with shoulders - heavy barbell shrugs or dumbell shrugs - usually pyramid the weight up to either 4 or 5 sets. traps also get worked while doing my deads though

Traps should be performed with your back. I do mine on pull day.

should they? sounds kinda definite even though it only makes sense to work them with delts when they are already used earlier in both the pushing(presses) and pulling(rows) movements of the shoulder workout. Thanks for the advice though I will make sure that I tell all the people that pay me to train them that you said it should be done that way.

IMHO, this is a preference thing. You can do them either way.

They work far better for me with delts. It just depends on how you need to prioritize your training concerning individual goals.

traps are part of shoulder day

3 x 12 :

front delt raises
side delt raises
rear delt extensions
upward rows
military press
db shrugs

In my opinion, that is a terrible routine for delts. Have you ever heard of overkill?

I do 2 sets of DB press and 1 set of machine side laterals for shoulder.

Anyhoo, i don't do direct trap work, well by that i mean no shrugs. Heavy deads are enough to build meaty traps.

Right now I'm cutting and going for definition, so I'm doing a lot more sets at lower weights - so it's not as bad as it probably looks. I also just do this shoulders workout alone - not with another muscle group right now.

shoulders and biceps when I'm going for strength are both right around 9 sets (3 exercises) each - since they are both smaller muscle groups.

So you think that doing higher volume will give definition? ~shaking my head~

why not? i think what i've done has worked rather well.

give me specifics as to why you disagree

If it's working then i won't waste my time explaining - it just doesn't work for everybody.

A routine that builds mass while bulking is one that will retain mass while cutting.

I just moved traps to back day. Mine are overdeveloped thanks doing them with shoulders (just db shrugs) and then hitting them on back day with heavy deads and rows (done with my back a bit higher than parallel to the floor which brings them into play more). Four day split over six days, hitting them twice, very heavy, and your's will grow like crazy too.

I have always done shoulders with traps even though its not usually possible to hit them again on back day. I just feel that theyre more involved indirectly with my shoulders exercises. Esp. lateral raises, behind neck presses, etc. Trying to really bring up my traps to go hand in hand with how wide my shoulders are. :D

If you're doing them on shoulder day and then do bb rows and/or deads on back day, you're working them twice. Nothing wrong with that, but that's what's happening.
