I posted this in the medical forum, but little traffic equals no replies. Please dont move it, yet.

A few weeks back while deadlifting, i felt a pop in the middle of my left trap, down over my back/shoulder blade not neck. Followed by a burning/tingling feeling. No bruising. Since then it still burns/tingles during daily activites, I have not done any back or shoulder exercises since it happened.

This sounds like a strain or partial tear, IMO. Ive never had an injury like this so i was hoping some of you can help confirm or suggest something else. Like i said i have tried to avoid using my left arm, but it is difficult since im left handed.

Any advice as far as what to do, how long i can expect healing time, whether a doctor visit is warranted?

Thanks.

I had a similiar experience about a year ago while deadlifting. Only I had severe tricep and lat bruising. After the swelling went down I can see (still one year later) a tendon bulging out of my left armpit.
I went to a doctor who said it wasn't a rotator cuff injury - duh, and said it would get better by itself. He was half right. I still have armpit disfigurement, and my left lat looks different than my right (I think Ronnie Coleman had a similiar injury) but I can deadlift without pain, but I had to switch my grip from left under/right over to left over/right under.
My guess as to what happened - A lat (and/or tricep) tendon broke lose from it's attachment point in the scapula, and relocated itself in my armpit.
I have complete mobility in my arm. If you don't I would seek a medical opinion.

i was doing a heavy set behind neck shoulder press, i pushed out a couple of reps and then on the way down i felt a funny kind of tingle and almost like someone had put their finger on my trap (halfway down, right side inbetween my shoulder blade and spine) it felt weird, i stopped and stood up, it didnt really hurt, but for months ive had problem after problem with cramps and acid-knots in both my traps, fuck knows what i did, but i did something. no swelling or bruising.

sounds very much like how my left trap feels. its not really painful, but the burning for no reason just doesn't feel right.

doesn't sound fun.

Im sure i will see a dr, it seems that what im doing might not be enough for it to heal. whatever the problem might be.

If I were you I would go to the Dr..You may sit there and think just because you cannot see anything, or because it is only slight pain you are fine. However one wrong move and you can screw yourself. What is the worst that can happen, him tell you that it will heal on it's own and to take it easy? Better safe than sorry. It really does not sound (from your description) to be to severe, however it should be checked.

Go to the chiropractor bro.

btw The board is a bit slow right now dew to winter and the holidays. I Like to be a nice guy and let threads go but at the same time just because its slow right now I can't give every one a free pass on the rules. The thread will get moved sooner or later.

My wife angel has decided she is going to start posting more in the medical forum. She is not a brain surgeon but she is a lpn going for her RN right now. She finds medical problems interesting and has been working in the medical field for about 10 years now. That should pick things up over there a bit during the down time.

sounds like the same thing i had about ten years ago--i ignored it and to this day every few months-sometimes longer/shorter, it comes back for a couple of weeks. doc said it was a tear and the scar tissue causes problems when i just lift something a certain way--so my advice is do not advil it out but see a doc/chiro--maybe even get insurace to cover some massage therapy

If you look at an anatomy chart you will see that the trapezius muscle is not only up on top of your shoulder/neck area but extends right down to the middle of your back. I think we have all had twinges & burning in this area during trap & back exercises. Normally I regard this as a bit of a warning that I'm pushing things a little too far. One good stretch to do after trap workouts or when a few niggles come on, is to join your hands palms behind your back & push down. For me this clears most minor problems. If your condition persists you may need to seek medical advice.

Load up on the volteral, ice every 2 hrs and take some hgh. Should sort its self in no time. get some deep tissue massage as the scar tissue may cause it to go again when you start lifying again.

Thank you.

I appreciate you letting it slide this long. I have gotten much more helpful advice from this thread in about 24 hours than i have from posting this on 2 other boards in 10 days time. Goes to show why elite is the best.

Thats awesome your wife will offering her expertise in the medical forum. Experience from bros is good advice, but advice from individuals trained in the field is great.

One question though, why suggest a chiropractor? Sounds interesting, hadn't really thought of that.
