training while cutting

Hi,

Just starting a 2 week deload/cruise after a pretty decent 5x5 for 13 or so weeks.

I'm now looking to cut downa bit but wanted to know what sort of weight training routine I should be looking to do while cutting. I'm guessing 5x5 isn't going to do it because that revolves around progressive loads. If I'm cutting then i will need to make sure I'm not lifting max's to avoid injury right?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Any decent program will "revolve around progressive loads." What constitutes progress, however, will change while you're cutting; it might be making smaller increases from week to week or even just not losing any strength if you're dropping a lot of bodyweight.

Like CCJ said, just reduce the volume a bit. If the version of the 5x5 you were doing is the single-factor one, you can probably keep the volume the same and be okay, since the work set volume is actually pretty low.

are you kidding? 5x5 would be considered high volume for me! :)

I'm thinking 1-2 work sets done 3 times a week
ala HST, classical HIT

That's why my comment about not dropping volume specifically referred to the single-factor version, which has exactly what you described, 1-2 work sets 3 times per week.

yeah I would suggest this kind of setup

say you train mon,wed, fri

mon - 2 sets
wed - 1 set and maybe lighter and higher reps
fri - 2 sets
