Traditionally, who pays for weddings, bride or groom?

I would hope the guy and I would be able to afford a justice of the peace ceremony and sushi or ribs or buffalo wings. I'm not kidding. I hate ceremonies and making a big deal out of stuff.

I rather put the money towards a house or a common goal that he and I can work on together.
