I won't be interviewed after 2pm. I want to be there before noon so they think I'm anxious to go to work. Also the interviewer may have had a bad day by 5pm.
Luckily I had 5 others to interview today as well. she just so happened to be the last @ 5pm and a no show. everyone here has left for the day. now im just waiting for my 6:00 cab to go back to the airport.
Ive interviewed hundreds of people over the last 15 yrs and I honestly do not do the cliche "where do you see yourself in 5 yrs" interview questions. they're just stupid. I ask question geared more towards the specific skill set necessary to do the job I'm hiring for. For instance, right now I'm hiring 9 Customer Service reps for a call center I'm opening up in WI. I ask questions like "tell me about some of the challenges you encountered in your last CS position" then they always say "well, sometimes there were difficult or dissatisfied callers" and then I follow with, "when you encounter a difficult caller, what type of CS or soft skill would you employ to handle and get through that call?" then after they answer (I'm looking for things like be patient with the caller, utilize active listening skills, assure the caller we will provide them with assistance to resolve their problem etc) then I follow with "and when you experience those difficult calls, how does that effect you on a personal level once the call is over with?" I'm looking for how people might let the difficult caller get to them or how they may be vulnerable to taking it personally, which is a no-no in a CS setting.
things like that.
Oh, also after I describe the role and the responsibilities for the job Im hiring for, I say "based on what I've told you about the position, what specifically about it makes it interesting to you?"
and today I was also asking "If I were to call your previous (or current) supervisor, how would they describe you as an employee?" and also "desribe for me your personality in the workplace and how you relate to both coworkers as well as supervisors"
