I posted this in the main forum, but I should have asked you girlz this ;)
I 4 weeks into my contest diet for figure and now the scale is going up or not moving for 2 weeks. Dam this is frustrating. My clothes are getting a little looser and I'm looking harder. This time around I'm using AAS , unlike last year so this is new to me.
I'm 5'8 started at 150.6, 2 weeks later 146.0, 1 week later 151. Can there be that much of a difference? I'd like to step on stage around 135ish.

Do your measurments and check your bf use the scale as a guide but don't live buy it. I was up almost 5 lbs cause of my period last week

Body Fat test

...am I being clear enough?

I really go by 2 things-- bf testing and a measuring tape. The scale varies too much. If you're seeing results and your clothes are getting smaller I'd consider that more reliable than the scale.

Good luck!

If I want to monitor my bf regularly, say once a week?, are buying a pair of calipers accurate enough?

I'll pick some up this week and get started, I have never used them before , a new toy ;)
This morning, I had my friend pinch me at the gym and this is what I posted in my log :

"I got my body fat done prior to HIIT this morning. For shits-n-giggles, The Tanita scale said 30% LMFAO -

Caliper reading compared was the same as his last week (02/17/2005) 20.8% "

SO much for scale accuracy

When I used my calipers a few days prior, it was 20.2%, CLOSE enough :)

Those bf scales are stupid. My hubby got on one, what the heck, 1 week out of a national show ( he has won this show before btw) I'd guess he was under 6% no doubt about it, it showed him at 15%

The tanita scales are not really "stupid" -- they are just measuring different components of bodyfat (i.e. more than just skin fold) and also are subject to differences in the body's impedence due to electrolyte diffs, water content, etc.

But to compare -- my weight has fluctated +/- 2-3 lbs since December but my bodyfat has dropped around 6-7% now.

Sorry, I should sum up to say, they are not an accurate account of what most people are looking for. I would never use one.
Good job on the bod's composition change :) that is what we all want. I can't wait to get some calipers now and get checkin ;)

well, I think they're stupid

I agree -- there are too many variables to get consistent readings easily I think and the number is higher than a pinch so it freaks people out. And frankly my last competition measurements were the analog calipers so that's the only measurement that I can compare with & get meaningful comparisons.
