Top Frustraitions From Personal Trainers

Whats up guys.

I'm new to this site and this will be my first Thread.
First things first My name is Gary Gilgen and I'm a 26
year old trainer and wellness consultant. I live in Maui
Hawai'i and couldn't be more grateful to live in
paradise!

I would say that I chose to post up in the personal
trainer section because I think I can relate better
here then anywhere else right now. I have been a part
time personal trainer for the last five years and full time
for a year and I love it mainly for the fact of seeing my
clients meet their fitness and health goals.

What I really wanted to talk about on this thread was
as Personal Trainers what would you say are your main
frustrations being in the profession your in? I know when
I was training full time it seemed like I barely had time
to get to my own workouts because I was running like
a mad man. Being on the phone with clients setting
appointments, promoting my business and of course
working with clients. I was working 40-60 hours per
week easy and barely making ends meet.

The reason i got into having my own training business
was to have the financial freedom of owning my business.
Not working for someone and having more time for my
family and myself. But it seemed like the more clients
I got (which was absolutely necessary to make money in
our industry) the less time I had for LIFE PERIOD!

So thats just a little something from me and I would
really like to know what some of your guys frustrations are
and as a forum see if we can lend a hand and help each
other out...

Aloha and Peace
Gary B. Gilgen

Whats up gary? Welcome to the club. I own a personal training biz and I think my biggest pet peeve is my 24hr rule. When and if a client cancles within 24 hrs. the session is paid in full. When the clients do not agree is what I cant stand. This is when the client trainer relationship gets compramized. What do you do in this type of situation? do you have a cancelation policy?

That is a great comment! That is something I think we all get frustraited about, I would say most clients aren't nearly as motivated to make their
training appointments as we are to work out everyday. Thats why most people are out of shape is because they don't have the discipline and drive to
make the changes in their life that will give them the results they're looking for. As far as my no cancellation policy, I have all my clients pay
for a ten pack pass and if they miss or cancel It still counts as a session. Now I totally understand that there are certainly times when we have
things come up and we CAN NOT make the appointment, but theres no reason a client can't pick up the phone and give us a heads up... I personally
thing 24 hours is more then enough time to call and cancel.

Hope that was of some help.

Gary.

Hey Gary,
Thats exactly how I feel. I just wanted to make sure I wasnt the only one doing that. I agree with you though, a simple phone call would do. and most the time, you know what your doing the night before for the next day, like you said:it all goes back to being dicsipline and not being lazy. Thanks for the reasurrance man. Be well and make that muney bro!

I guess everyone Is pretty happy with the way there business is going ;) No frustrations?

yea, biz is good at this time of year. All the way up to 3 mths out of the yr which are fev, march, april i am the slowest out of the year. My sessions go to about 28-35 sessions a week from 35-48 sessions/wk. What do you think i could do to improve my numbers in the slow season? Any ideas bro?

That is an interesting point on the 24 hour rule PF1. I hadn't considered that option before. But it's really not all that unfair. A scheduled appointment is a "verbal contract" and customers should understand that canceling on short notice constitutes a serious "loss of opportunity" for which compensation is not only fair but legally enforceable.

Absoultly agreed LilRiver...The only thing is that when you form relationships w/ long clients that charging them isnt the easiest thing to do. but, they all know my rule before starting up..Do you have any vices vs. clients? Thx Bro
