Top court strikes blow to Medicare in Canada

before I start laughing to the point of posibly breaking ribs, I will ask you - do you work in healthcare? Do you do business in Europe?

The rest of your post could be summarized by the words "government program"

Sure, as a matter of fact, I don't work in HC, however my brother in law, and my sister are both in health care. One is a doctor, and one is an RN (guess which...duh). I also spent 5 years sitting on a steering committee (semi-health related) with the CEO from our Health Region whom I got to know quite well and had interesting discussions with.

Yes, I've been to Europe on many occasions (what does business have to do with anything? Are you networking or something?). I've been treated in Norway and England for minor ailments (however, I'm not counting Britain as "Europe").

Why? Who the fuck are you?

Do YOU work in the CHS? ** Oh my. I just saw your av that says you live in...Florida? What the FUCK do you know about Canadian health care?**

Laugh yer ass off Skywalker - I AM your father!

Hmmm...let's see...what DO I know about healthcare? Anything?

Well, I publish a medical journal read by millions of doctors that includes topics such as neurology, rheumatology and RA, cardiology, nephrology and several others.

We have readers on 5 continents...Africa has been slow on the uptake. I have MDs that write for me in all types of specialities. The way they practice is guided entirely by the healthcare systems in their home countries. I have a few Canadian employees in Winnipeg. I also have pharamceutical company clients from the US and Europe.

So I guess you could say I am involved in healthcare around the world. :) I probably know the biz (though admittedly, not the science) better than anyone on this board.

In another business, I have employees in the UK and affiliates in China, HK, and Singapore. Depending on the country, we have had to provide health care benefits for our people in different ways. In this business I spend several million a year on healthcare for employees.

Furthermore, I was not commenting on anything you said about the CHS, but about the European comments, which are remarkably off-base.

Thanks for your time.

Removing this restriction is not truly possible in an environment where the government is picking up the tab.

Of course it is. They're (we're) paying for it anyway, just over a longer period. You could also argue that removing the restriction will result in a savings since there will be more incentive for highly qualified physicians to work more.

bureaucracy is another huge problem here and probably canada as well.

too many people getting paid sitting around filling out paperwork that really has no purpose and generates expense.

too many management and office leaches.

True in every country in every business :)

Interestingly, the cost per person in Canada for healthcare is almost half what it is in the US.

Good points.

But considering just how well the CHS USED to work for decades, and how it's faltering now, is it necessary to chuck the whole thing out the window? Of course not. The pressure to do so is likely coming from the govt. that would simply like nothing better than to privatize the system so they can wash their hands of the responsibility and headace. This is of course veiled in "Look how it doesn't work!" "We need something NEW, not old (as if "new" is gonna be better)", etc.

I liken it to a sixteen year old that wants a new car from daddy. The car is sound and solid but the alternator is broken. Instead of fixing the fucking thing and having a good car, the brat is screaming for a new Mustang GT cause "the old one is broke". Any excuse to privatize the CHS. If those of you commenting actually LIVED in Canada, you'd realize that for the last decade some folks (ie. King Ralph for instance) has been harping on privatizing the CHS for years. Funny how the years have passed the arguments for privatization have wandered ALL OVER THE MAP. It has become clear to the citizen with an IQ over 80 that it's not about the system, it's about the responsibility.

Suddenly. SUDDENLY over the last decade the CHS is no longer workable? WTF? How did it work for so many years then? How come it works elsewhere? This system is what Canadian WANT. Therefore it should be fixed and made to work, instead of being hindered. Canada is NOT the USA and has different values and culture which is clearly something most of the folks in this thread seem to want to ignore. This goes beyond the dollar figure (which by the way, doesn't act as the bottom line to "everything", this topic in particular).

Oh but the fact that I've lived in Canada for 40 years and followed the issue, talked extensivly with those on the inside, experienced it here and abroad, etc. means of course that I'm talking out of my ass cause I'm not some health care professional. I find it amusing that opinions such as mine get ignored and laughed at, when in fact I and others like me are the end users of the CHS.

It's like Wal-Mart ignoring the complaints and suggestions of it's own customers and saying things like "Oh you guys don't understand - WE'RE the managers of the stores and we KNOW." "Oh yea well I've been a distributor of merchandise for years so you don't know you're just a customer".

Guess what? That's the sound of your busniness circling the drain!

Or in this case, that's the sound of your constituents voting for the green party...lol!

Very unfortunate. Paves the way for an elitist system. Are there problems with wait times in Canada? Yes. Do we want a system where those with money go to the front of the line? No.

Are you fucking kidding? People who work harder .. make more money should get better care.. just like ANYTHING ELSE in the world.. why do you champion mediocrity so much????

As hard as you may find it to believe.. everyone has the same opportunity to go to college.. get a degree.. start their own business and make a lot of money.. in all my years of college no one EVER asked me my race, ethnicity, sex or anything of the like before allowing me to take a college course.

so.. everyone has the same opportunity to buy better madical care.. if they decide to skip school , have babies before they can afford to.. they have to settle for shitty care.. ITS THE WAY LIFE WORKS.

You see bluepeter.. its called incentive.. something that appears to be completely alien to socialist society.. you create incentive for better care.. people will work harder and strive for better jobs to obtain it.

It everyone is given the same crap no matter how hard they work.. well.. I dont need to spell it out.
