Top court strikes blow to Medicare in Canada

To ever hint at comparing the overall QUALITY of Canada's healthcare system to ours is a fucking joke and you and everyone else here knows it.

I used to work for a buch of guys who were canadian citizens.. so Ive heard plenty of stories about the fearless incompetence and endless waiting for even the most minor of procedures in Canada.

You're right, it is a joke.

We don't have 45 million people without coverage.

The Supreme Court shown some common sense (it was about time). We already had an "underground" private system. Those with private insurance or money could just cross the border and go to a US hospital. Forbidding someone to spend its money the way he/she wants is just dumb.

So many of the comments above are so easy to say when you have money.

A little different when you have 3 kids and a mediocre job and your kid gets sick. "Sorry Billy, Daddy can't get help for you because he traded off an 80 hour a week career and big money for actually trying to be a father to you for!"

Why should Joe Schmoe suffer and get in line behind some guy cause he makes 250k a year? Might as well start gathering for worship at your bank every Sunday...

The fact of the matter is, and always has been that in Canada, it's an overwhelming majority that supports and believes in the concept of equal access health care (if you doubt this, I'd suggest learning to read so you can peruse your local newspaper). Another fact of the matter is that it worked for a long time already very successfully. People want it that way, it CAN be done, therefore the Canadian Government has responsibility to make it work, or get out and let someone in who can make it work.

The only people screaming for privatized health care are amusingly enough, those with money. What a fucking surprise! So that's what this is about in my mind "economic survival of the fitest."

Nice culture we're developing into.

Life or death depends on your income...

Fair enough but telling someone their kid will have to wait in line because rich boy is taking away resources by paying is dumb too.

The kid is already waiting in line. And it has been going on for a decade at least. Goverments had more than enough time to deal and fix it but they didnt.

At the ned, this will probably be the best thing ever for everyone since it will force our stupid politicians to do a reality check and maybe deal with the real issues.

I agree with that at least. Perhaps it will wake some of them up.

Word.

The presence of competition forces those inept-in-charge to wake up and make changes.

The free market philosophy has proved itself once again.

Canada's healthcare system will only get better not "worse" after this. Fear-Mongerers are to be expected. Many are scared of change.

How has the free market philosophy 'proved itself'?

As to whether Canada's healthcare will improve, sure it will. Except only for those that can pay.
