To the Strongmen...

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman
Platinum
I was just curious to those who have done strongman or regular train for strongman...

What do you feel are some of the best benefits of the training?

How do you feel that these training methods would help people in other sports (bodybuilding, powerlifting, foot ball, basket ball, etc...)?

Do you think that strongman training is something that everyone could benefit from?

Do you feel that strongman training is helping you to live a longer and more healthy life?

What is your favorite thing about strongman?

Any other comments or things that you want to add???

Do you think that strongman training is something that everyone could benefit from?

Definitly!!!!!

Do you feel that strongman training is helping you to live a longer and more healthy life?

Maybe, but the diet might clog your arteries if your not careful.

What is your favorite thing about strongman?

The support you get when competing, theres no other feeling like it!!!!

i think it helps build your overall core strength, increases endurance and for me it opened me up to lots of different ways of training

How do you feel that these training methods would help people in other sports (bodybuilding, powerlifting, foot ball, basket ball, etc...)? i think it would help they're speed/strength and endurance

Do you think that strongman training is something that everyone could benefit from? yes, even if its just a few events.

Do you feel that strongman training is helping you to live a longer and more healthy life? not so much physically but mentally i feel so much better(happier) and have so much more self gratification; less stressed

What is your favorite thing about strongman? i love the fact that with strongman i can constantly surprize myself on how far i can push my body. i love testing myself and i love the variety of events. they're all fun and there are so many. not to mention the comradre(sp?) that everyone in this sport has. i just cant say enough good things bout the sport. i'm hooked...what can i say.

What do you feel are some of the best benefits of the training?

"Real" strength vs "gym" strength.

How do you feel that these training methods would help people in other sports (bodybuilding, powerlifting, foot ball, basket ball, etc...)?

I think it would help develop strength in areas not normally developed with the "standard" training that is usually associated with other sports.

Do you think that strongman training is something that everyone could benefit from?

Yes. Some techniques and mild events could be helpful in building overall fitness, but I don't think everyone would benefit from going as hardcore as the members of this board.

Do you feel that strongman training is helping you to live a longer and more healthy life?

Not sure yet. After Bluegrass, I felt like my life had been shortened.:D

What is your favorite thing about strongman?

The comradery and support from other competitors.

Q:What do you feel are some of the best benefits of the training?

A: Lung capacity is a good one. being strong for lifting a heavy weight is great, but i dont like to not be in shape. also the amount of growth hormone released from this type of training is a butt load. and like joker said......... functional strength. sure someone might be strong enough to push their vehicle if it ran out of gas....... but i know for sure i could.

Q:How do you feel that these training methods would help people in other sports (bodybuilding, powerlifting, foot ball, basket ball, etc...)?

A:the gh relases will aid for sports like bodybuilding, and functional strength and conditioning will help powerlifters, just like raising gpp. the lung capacity of all atheletes would increase which is a good thing in sports. it teaches eplosivness. and i know for sure if i had trained flipping a heavy tire as fast as i could for distance, i know wrestling in high school would have been a lot easier.

Q:Do you think that strongman training is something that everyone could benefit from?

A: Yes.......... for the reasons listed above.

Q: Do you feel that strongman training is helping you to live a longer and more healthy life?

A: well i cant say longer....... but healthier??...well if im late for work, and i have to run back into the house to get something, i dont pass out like a wheezing asmatic.......... also, when someone now says " your big and strong........ pick this up and carry it for me, i dont struggle. Now i have functional strength, in other words i look strong in the gym and out.

Q: What is your favorite thing about strongman?

A: the support, the friends ive made, and the rush i get, and the fact that i feel like my strength cannont be measure by such simple observations as only the gym lifts. now my heart and true grit shows thru so you can see what im really made of.

lol............. that about some it up.

"Real" strength vs "gym" strength.

I don't really think there is much of a difference with strongman strength and gym strength. It is really a difference of skill and if you are used to it. For example, somebody who squats 800 tries a heavy yoke. In the begining he might not be able to walk with it at all. But as he gets used to it he will be walking with it easily. But gym strength does matter. Riku Kiri was probably the strongest person in the last ten years. His gym strength was amazing. When it came to something like atlas stones he rarely beat MVM. The reason is MVM was faster. But when it came to the heaviest atlas stone Riku has put on a 485 stone. I think that was because he was gym strong not beacuse he practice events. The "real" strength you mean isn't really strength but more skill.

well......... there is more than just limit strength or absoulte strength. which is what powerlifters train like. but since "real" strength is applying to things you might to in a daily life. for example. how is squating going to assist you carrying a 100lb bag of concrete up a latter???? not like training with running with a keg over your shoulder i guarantee you. and interms of riku being stronger than MVM, if he couldnt go faster than him, then he's not as strong. becuase if they were using the same weights (and they were) but MVM did it faster, then he is stronger.

are you a member over at www.anabolex.com ????

I am not a member of anobolex and I have never even of heard of it. Riku was definitely stronger than MVM. There is no doubt about that. MVM is alittle better at strongman though. Most people don't know much about Riku bvyt he domiated alot of european contests beating MVM.
