I get a free gym membership via my employer however my former gym won't let me out of the gym membership....no reason - they just said NO....

Now this old gym doesn't provide towels, cleaner, they NEVER clean the place nor do they offer any classes....

Would you guys continue to pay for it monthly?? Or just stop paying & let it go to collection?

i would tell them to get fucked, and let them know if they didn't let me cancel my membership, i would:

file a complaint with the better business bureau

dispute any and all charges with my charge company

and let them know you don't have a job (lie), and you would be more than happy to sit outside all day, each and every day, with a fucking bull horn telling people what a shitty gym / establishment this place is.

it worked for me and sprint....hell, i even got a month free and a new phone.

I don't know ... if you're under a binding contract it wouldn't be worth it to mess with your credit rating for a few dollars a month.

oh, silly me.

just get a doctor's note saying he doesnt want you working out for an unknown amount of time. they have to let you go if you have one of those

do you have a copy of your membership and the stipulations of the contract? if so review it and see if it lists ways the membership may be terminated. i wouldnt let it go to collection, its just not worth it in the long run.

If it's a local gym, the chances that they report to any of the credit agencies is nil.

How much time is left on your contract?

Aren't you an American? Get the lawyers out and sue their ass. You'll make out like a bandit.

This could work....or they would act all nice and holf your membership for a month or two and you can continue paying one it when you feel better LOL

1 year is left......

And I do work, so I don't have time to sit outside with the bullhorn Poink....but good idea!

And they prolly DO report to a collection agency/credit bureaus cuz the agency that handles the payments is a Mortgage company.....

so you're not gonna go to that gym but yet in a year you'd be throwing away almost 900 bucks? that really blows. if they don't clean up there gym or offer any cleaner to do it yourself why don't you just call the health department??

heatherrae's an attorney. . .ask her. . .you can get out of just about anything. . .especially bullshit gym contracts. . .

It depends on what the contract states. Usually there are provisions in it that will dictate the terms of termination - if it has a termination provision.

So for $73 a month you want to fuck your credit for years?

You can't be serious.

Ummmmmm, I worked in credit lending for 12 years....most lenders don't really give much weight to 1) hospital bill charge offs 2) cell phone charge offs and 3) gym charge offs

agreed

check your contract and the termination clauses, sometimes it sucks, but you signed the thing... I believe that is how most gyms make their money... by non-going customers who can't get out of contracts

Did you sign a contract? If so for how long? If there is no binding contract then they can not hold you there. If there is a contract there are loop holes! you know a good doctor? LOL...
