I have an opportunity coming up to go to a barn with 3 friggin crazy brothers and try out for the first time:

Atlas Stones
Farmers Walk
The Finger
Tire Flip
And something called the Yoke

I'm scared about not only the guys there having cute and pretty me in a barn with the doors locked, but Jeebus, some of this stuff looks tough.

Any tips for the n00b?

Never done finger so you will have to ask jason what the best form is on that. Tire flip get low and square up with the tire, and drive your shoulders into it, dont try and curl it. Yoke there really isin't much to give for tips, just keep your core tight and take very shallow breaths, if you loosen up your fucked. You will have to play around with arm position and see what is most comfortable. Farmers you wanna just stay tight the whole way through, shallow breaths, etc. The stones you just gotta do. A few tips i have for stones is don't sit with the thing in your lap, be very explosive and attack the stone. Put your arms over the top of the stone and extend. Common sense would tell you to put them on the sides but for some reasons gravity does not work against you like your think it would.

Thanks for the pointers.

Not at all bro, you should know strongmen/powerlifters are some of the nicest guys on the planet. I'm sure jason knows alot more then me anyway, haha. Where abouts in wisconson are you, my mom has a friend up there that she visits every now and then ill have to see if i can go up there with her next time if its near you so i can train with you guys.

Just south of Green Bay by about 25 miles.

And yea, Jason & his brothers of real salt of the Earth guys. I wouldn't be where I am today physically if it wasn't for him and his endless supply of patience.

You're welcome to train with us anytime. We only have one rule.

No crying.

Train like you're competing. Most of that stuff is going to wear your entire body out physically. Don't stop because you're getting a little tired or out of breath. Train like you need the next rep or the next 10 feet to win an event. (I'm not suggesting you don't know how to train, it's just different than doing bicep curls)

Example:
My boss decided he wanted to train with me. The first time he tries the yoke, he gets 450lbs off the ground, takes two steps, and drops it claiming "it's too heavy." So I started screaming. "Too heavy for what? Your vagina? You just picked that $hit up and started walking with it. It wasn't too heavy to do that so why did you stop? Did you think you were coming to a bake sale?"
He got my point and went back at it. Not only did he take it for more than one run of 50ft, but he added another 50lbs and took the 500lb yoke 50ft also. He felt like hammered dog crap afterward and had trouble getting out of his car after his drive home, but he did it.
