I mean, you can hear it.

wtf, are you my twin?

yes, i have it. a mild case. i think it's what gives me headaches once in a while and the day after I go to the dentist, i can't open my mouth.

LOL (at twin)

What do you do for it?

I went to the ENT today (his son happens to be a dentist - my new dentist - I love him) and I go in there riddled with a brewing migraine and no meds, a sinus and tension headache and I'm like doc you have to help me I'm falling apart here. He tells me to hold off on the deviated septum and that I have a sinus infection - yahda yahda.

Then we're talking about things headaches, migraines, stress/tension, my computer chair :worried: and then he says honey (he's an old school doc I love him too) that pain right there isn't from your migraines it's from TMJ.

More discussion...

The dentist (his son) is in the same building so I run down to him and tell him what his father says and he's like yeah it's entirely possible and I get to see him next week.

HOLLY HELL

My eyeballs and teeth actually ache.

HAHA The doc told me after I buy a new chair I should get case of my favorite wine and have a glass every night before bed to help me relax.

You can tell why I dig this guy.

velvett you need to talk to Mava who guided me through my TMJ the first time i had symptoms. I actually havent had it in quite a while. first time i noticed it i thought i had an ear infection/inflammation because the pain was right below my ear which was actually my jaw lol i couldnt bite down for weeks and it goes from side to side.
anyway, i went to the dentist and i have a weird bite so she got me a custom night guard (mouthpiece) to wear at night but i dont wear it.

i ought to have it. . .my bottom jaw is kinda crooked from breakage. . .it kinda cocks (heh, heh. . .he said cocks) off to one side when i open it. . .never had any discomfort, though. . .

velvett, the only thing i do for it is get vicodin after i go to the dentist for the next few days, and I try to relax my jaw every time i roll over or get up during the night, since I clench my teeth. I just opened and closed my jaw right now and felt it be tight and sore. I rarely chew gum anymore btw. that used to bother me.

Anyone have it?

I do it sucks.
I got sucker punched from behind by a guy that played for the NHL Rangers.
The Dr. told me if he hit me one inch higher I would have died on the spot.
For about a month I could not open my mouth more then a quarter inch!
My insurance didn't cover it at all.
The Dr. made a special thing for my jaw that looked like a babies sucker.
It worked really well at relaxing my jaw muscles.
My jaw still clicks here and there.
I don't have a neutral point with my jaw anymore and my teeth alignment is messed up.
Eventually I will need to have a wire tendon put in the side of my head to replace the real one! :(
The guy that did it is now my roommate.
He is the same guy that hit me with the wooden folding table when I got Cellulitis and almost died.

dude, you're more broken than me

for run of the mill tmj, this excercize seems to work with everyone I've reccomended it to. It works for me everytime I get a relapse.

put a small piece of a matchbook cover or construction paper etc in the space between your top middle front teefus and your bottom middle.

then looking in the mirror open your mouth wide and slowly close your jaw such that the top front teeth and the bottom front teeth meet, with the inserted papers aligned. **Do it slowly and tense the muscles like slow reps **

you'll probably feel some clicking and the muscles in your jaw straining.

do about 10 reps, with 2 or 3 sets scattered tru out the day.

after awhile you wont even need the paper as a guide or the mirror. whenever you feel the clicking and the misalignment start (from jaw clenching or nitetime bruxism (sp?) ) do the excercizes. usually 1 day is enuf to "fix" the problem.

4 yrs ago I had a horrible case of TMJ, I was grinding my teeth really bad and getting aura migraines from them. My ENT and Dentist were baffled, I did the mouth guard etc and nothing worked.
They seriously went away when I got out of a unhealthy relationship. I'm not joking! Most TMJ is caused from stress
My jaw now sometimes hurts, but that's the lyme.

Marc could help you with those things buy you are too stubborn. :(

My mother has TMJ.

She is a mess because of it. Due to a lack of eating her weight went from 130ish to about 85. She is up to 110 now but it has really taken its toll on her.

They're finding that TMJ is more complicated than previously thought. My wife just got back from a sleep apnia (sp?) seminar. The guy putting the thing on was making connections between TMJ and sleep disorders, as well as dental & orthodontic practices that can cause TMJ.
She came back and told me that my TMJ is due to the poor Orthodontic care. She also said that between my broken nose, allergies, & TMJ I am most likely to suffer sleep disorders. I sleep fine, but the TMJ does suck.
