thumbless chin-ups?

You put your thumbs on the same side of the bar as your 4 fingers (like a hook grip) instead of around the bar. This grip is supposed to reduce the assitance from the biceps & make your lats work more.

Im not convinced- I think I would fall off the bar...LOL

anyone use the thumbless grip?

I use a thumbless for most movements, except for deads, cleans, and bb curl.

but on pulldowns/chins, i do used a thumbless grip

so do I- but not on chins- doesnt your grip slip?

Since you are probably using a stationary bar slipping will be reduced by the fact that the bar can't spin out of your hands. As for the biceps involvement I don't really see that. Perhaps brachialis but you are going to use some bi's unless you are doing very wide grip overhand pulls.

I rarely feel my biceps working hard on back exercises....sometimes in the last few reps when form breaks down......I think a thumbless grip is ok but even better is to pull with the back rather than the arms...
