I was just reading (yes I can read!) an article in a newspaper about a recent incident in India. In India they have a hierarchical system that tells others of your position in society. It is considered an insult to your family if you become involved with people in the wrong position.
Apparently a 15 year old boy and a 16 year old girl were seen walking down the road holding hands. The problem being that the boy was from the bottom of the heirarchy and the girl from the top.
These people were dragged into a shed and their families called. The girls family considered her actions such an insult that the girl was held down by neighbours and strangled by her own family....whilst the boy watched. The boys family said it was up to the girls family to punish him as it was them that were "insulted". So they hung him!

I dont understand what the hell is wrong with these people. Everybody is so stuck on being better than everybody else that they will kill rather than have their families involved with one they consider lesser.

The caste system is inherent in Hinduism!! It's related to reincarnation. They say that if you are the "lowest" (untouchables) it's because you had bad karma in a past life!

the caste system is absouletly horrible.

unfortunately many cultures have similar horrors of their past, its unfortunate that india hasnt shed this one.

but the caste system is separate to the religion. dont ever make that mistake. oh and the cow isnt worshiped per say as its not considered to be a god or a demi god its considered a sacred animal. unfortunately when a caste system is so rooted in thier culture they find it impossible to shed it. its terrible.

they really have to get the caste system away from all the villagers. they have made inroads into stopping it, but it sickens me to think it still goes on in the poorest areas where really thats where its least needed. the parents of that boy and girl actually took the caste system over their own religion, its really shocking. of course there was this one woman who got raped by these higher caste guys. she killed them all. horribly. unfortunately she was recently assasinated
