The way Ali moved around in a ring

First off, Ali's little poems up there fucking suck, so for anyone who praises them, I beseech you: go out and find some real poetry, not something that I could've shit out in 8th grade.

Second, the whole debate on the two is ridiculous. It's like children getting into a pissing contest or something. Seriously guys, opinions mean shit. It can be argued until the end of time, but unless those two get in the ring (not happening - ever), there won't be any clear cut answer. The track records of each fighter means shit, 'cause as the saying goes, "Every dog has his day."

They were both threatening opponents in the ring. One wrong move by either of them, and it could've all been over. Tyson might not have much endurance, he might go for a quick KO, but so what? If Ali wasn't too careful, and he got himself caught, he could get knocked the fuck out from the get-go.

Tyson, if he wore himself out too quick and Ali was on top of his game that day, could've gotten his ass handed to him as Ali dwindled down what was left of the big guy.

Dude, you obviously know nothing about boxing. Who did Tyson beat to be a top 10 all time fighter? He badly lost his legacy fights to Holyfield and Lewis. He was upset by Douglas, and recently by Danny Williams. Tyson was a front runner, who slowed down considerable after round five. I have seen all of Tyson's fights. His best wins were vs a scared to death OLD Spinks, a durable and game Ruddock(Who went to decision), Berbick (Who went to decision), and an OLD Larry Holmes.

Tyson is just outside of my top ten, mostly because he was so strong, quick, aggressive and explosive. He could steam roll many of histories greats. No one could blow out a class B fighter like a Prime Tyson could. But in the end, who did Tyson beat to be ranked in the all time top ten?

And to actually say that Ali had no power?? WTF!?!?! He Ko'd 37 of his 61 opponents. He lost 4 times. Once to Joe Frazier ( arguably one of the top 10 best fighters ever) after a 4 yr layoff and the fight went 15 rounds. Frazier was beaten to a pulp, as was Ali, and Ali went on to beat Frazier TWICE, one by KO. Once to Ken Norton, who broke his jaw in the second round and Ali finished the fucking fight! He later went on to beat Norton TWICE! Once by Leon Spinks in 1978, Ali had been fighting professionally for 18 fucking years and some say he was already suffering from Parkinsons. Spinks was like 21 yrs old. Ali beat Spinks 7 months later. 2 years later Ali tried to make a comeback by fighting, again, one of the top 10 best heavyweights ever, Larry Holmes, and was beaten. He was CLEARLY suffering form Parkinson's at this point and time and still went 11 rounds with Holmes.

To even compare Tyson to Ali is ludicrous. I think he has done enough to make it into the top 15, but not being able to win your defining fights (Lennox, Holyfield etc)? I don't think anybody on my top 10 didn't win most of his defining fights.
Tyson knocked out Trevor Berbick in round 3 to be the youngest heavyweight champ of all time (20yrs and 5months)Tyson started to turn to shit when he sacked Kevin Rooney as his coach.Holyfield although abit small was a tough M/F. Lennox Lewis is the best as far as not running from anyone. Ali was wicked but you must realise more people box now so more good fighters. Dont forget David Tua when he comes back,He can bang! ;)

Ali was more than just a boxer - hence his greatness. Tyson (whilst a true KO machine in the ring) had far to many problems outside it to make him a true champion.

The problem is, I don't like it when people present their subjective opinions as if they are certain facts. If I offended you, post it on my, "Have I ever offended any of you" thread.

right.

quite full of ourself aren't we.

p.s. seems you present your subjective opinion about how I present my subjective opinions as tho it is certain fact. Per above, I guess that means you don't like yourself.

I hope I don't come off like that. I thought I made it clear that it was just my opinion and that I might be wrong. BTW, I couldn't stand Ali's fat mouth.

We're not talking about some all-around good guy who was a "true champion" (whatever the fuck that means) at life or anything. We're strictly talking about boxing, and how the fighters fared in the ring. I don't think any of them give a shit about what their opponent's going to go do the following weekend after the bout, like go on a picnic with the family or rape some dumb broad.

I always kinda liked him talking shit cause he could back it up.

But then again it caused a lot of trouble at our house, I was very small but I remember my grand father liked Ali and my grand mother hated him for that very reason, she refused to call him Ali, she called him Cassius Clay or worse.
If you look at the history of the era he was a very polarizing figure in American history during Veitnam. I do not like some of his antics but I still have great respect for him as a fighter, , but hey , to each his own

Tyson was an unstable headcase, but if the mood suited him and the stars where aligned, I'd say he'd crush Ali.

ok, you clearly know nothing about Ali, so I suggest you read the following book on Ali : http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...002-6206904-0599217?v=glance&s=books&n=507846
