The "Secret" Drug

Found this article in the December 2003 issue of Flex....

"...Those who preach that drugs are the be all and end all are not the top champs; they are frewuently people with a vested intrest in promoting that message. The late Dan Duchaine, the original steriod guru, told me- the only time we ever spoke- that he had experimented with just about ervery steriod combination possible and still never weighed more than 180 pounds. . Genetics anyone??
Now for the "secret" drug. Actually, I've already mentioned it. The secret drug is desire. I've been fortunated to know the last three Mr.Olympia champions (Lee Haney, Dorian Yates and Ronnie Coleman) really well. Bedsides great genetics, desire was the most prominent quality shared by this trio on their ascent to the pinnacle of the sport. They worked their asses off in the gym and dieted with undaunted discipline..."

That's only part of the article, but if u have Flex , read it , its a really good article.

Let me know what you guys think

Good post, I think too much emphasis is placed on drugs. Now does anyone have a good source for this desire stuff...lol.

I've read that article before when they "redid" the look of the magazine.

I agree that desire is the most important factor, along with hard work and diet. I do think it's funny how it comes off as an anti steroid article, but it NEVER says they don't do them.

It vaguely says they can't get that big naturally ... or legally. Cuz they dont want to say it out there . "Ronnie Coleman has been Mr. Olympia 6 times all thanks to his steriod use." But the desire. diet , and intense training is a HUGE part of his success...

I guess I don't blame them. I wouldn't want to put that out there either.

I completely agree that the desire and hard work are the most important aspects.

This is a great post and something I've been contemplating recently. I have only used AAS for less than a year now. I thought they would be the "quick-fix" I was longing for. I found that if I did not bust my ass, then results were not going to come. I actually caused negative effects to myself until I realized how to use them wisely. Gear is esentially a tool, such as weights themselves, that if not utilized properly with discipline and asthetics will not be beneficial in the end. If I lose my new found drive, I will inevitably lose the gear...
