The Red Ring of Death

So it finally happened. My xbox 360 got the red ring. Happened about 2 weeks ago, I've been wrapping it up in a towel and over heating it every couple days, this seems to bring it back to life, for a day or 2.

I'm an avid Halo player. Halo CE got me hooked on video games, halo 2 and 3 have me hooked as well. Great games.

I play MLG style, it's a shooter, yet very refined. Games are very complex and full of strategy. team play is a major factor, along with weapon, power up timing/control as well as map and spawn control. It's like chess, but high speed. Turns a lot of people off at first, since death is a quick one second away, and you don't have a radar system identifying enemies, You actually have to look, and listen to hear your enemies. After 30,000 games of halo, I honestly still have a, WOW, no way!, HAhaha! moment in every game.

Anyways, my box finally did it!

So I'm trying to go over my options, My warranty expired in 2007, MS is apparently emailing me shipping info soon? They haven't given me a price on the repair? I know the disc drive is going to break soon too, it hardly ejects. Will they replace the entire xbox. Do I get a new warranty? Does this cover the disc drive? Anyone try any of those ghetto fixes? I don't want to fail at trying to repair it myself, and then MS tell me they won't fit it? Should I just buy a new one?

I totally thought you were Spart for your first hundred posts or so, although I have no idea why I thought that. I don't think Spart posted pics of himself in a jock strap. Perhaps I need to stop thinking about male EF members in their underwear.

Oh, yeah, re: your thread, I've never played an xbox before, sorry. But good luck with this thread, dood. Lots of doods here play xboxes. In their underwear. Oh god not again

:cow:

when did you talk to MS? they have increased the warranty on it like 3 times. supposed to now be 1 year covers everything, and 3 years for the red ring error. i've had mine for quite a while, just got the red ring a couple months ago. they fixed it for free. had to ship it off, yes, but it was at MS's expense. got it back in about a week and a half. from what i've heard, tho, they won't touch disc drive repairs. they should cover the red ring error no expense. raise hell if they try to tell you otherwise. the date of manufacture is located on the back by the serial number. if it's been within 3 years of that, you should be good. and, i would not try to repair any part of it yourself, too easy to fuck it up....

I registered my console on xbox.com, checked the warranty and it said the warranty has expired. Requested a repair, called to confirm repair request, and am still waiting. It's been a day or 2. I've heard they will repair it anyways, I've also heard it will cost around 100.

Lol, samoth!

Go on craigslist and type in XBox Red Rings - there were a dozen people in my city that would fix it in a couple of days for 1/2 the price Microsoft charged, plus overclock the fan so it won't happen again. Mine works fine now and it cost me $50.

You can also download a $30 guide and fix it yourself, but it involves soldering and taking the thing apart, which is a pain in the ass.

my sons had the same thing and was past his warranty also but they still fixed it for free... they will give you a shipping label and they will pay for it to be shipped to them and back. the entire repair will be free. takes about 3 weeks for it all...

I have heard that applying thermal pastic between CPU and fan iprove and sometimes fix the issue.... but first fight for the free repair..... :)
